So, I came across this new spa today. Its first day is today (Feb 18). It appears to be a legit Chinese massage place. I can’t entirely read what it does but it has a bunch of stuff like the typical semi legit advertises.

But when I went in, I was ushered into a room with two beds and two of these other machines. There’s a few rooms here. I attached a picture. I asked the attendant about it and she said something along the lines of traditional Chinese medicine conditioner. Since I was there for a massage I didn’t ask anything else about it.

Massage was decent - medium strength on my upper body. When the attendant got to my legs she was surprised at how strong it was so she had to work much harder. So she adjusted the strength which was nice.

Anyways, no services especially if there are multiple beds per room. I didn’t see the other rooms. But since I am in this plaza often enough I might eventually see the rest of it.

One hour massage was $60. Tips extra but since this is a legit shop the damage will be limited.

Anyone know what these machines are?

I think its a steam treatment..? First Markham Wellness has one in their pictures online. Nobody in it.

no , nien , nyet , nespas, I barely know any of our french here. I tried to say four little words in chinese and couldnt do it.

Ok. Was asking a friend. They steam with traditional Chinese medicines. So who knows what I might come out smelling as.

Ok so I’ve been to this place like 4 times In the last 2 weeks. I talked the owner yesterday about those pods. He says $38/30 min. I will give it a shot the next time I go. Wish me luck

So, I went to try their steam pod yesterday. It takes a bit of time to set up, so I had some of the traditional Chinese medicine herbal tea while I waited.

They have like 10 of the machines and the guy gives me a basic overview of the machines. They look fancy but is pretty basic - there is a little steam generator in the back and it gets pumped into the pod. The temperature can be controlled - it’s set to 42C for me. There’s little flaps on the top cover that you can poke your hand through to manipulate the controls without opening the pod. I should have brought some music or something… sitting there for 30 minutes would have been easier if I did.

So yeah, had some tea. And when the machine was ready, I was told to take everything off and put on a pair of disposable underwear and sit and chill out in the pod. The dude comes in every 5 min or so to see if I am ok. This is basically a wet sauna and I think I feel like how one of those tea eggs feel.

It was an ok experience. At the end, I had an hour massage but I was so zapped from sitting there. Massage was great but I definitely snoozed off. Oh yeah, when the time on the pod is over, the steam generation stops. So you step out of the pod and wrap a towel and scoot off to the massage room across the hall. Slightly awkward but I guess it was ok. The disposable undies get tossed into the trash and cover up with the towel on the table and wait for the massage. So yeah, that was a good nap

Total was $38 for the pod (30 minutes), $60 for the massage (1 hour). And left $20 tip.

At the moment I come here twice a week. I probably won’t do the steam pod every time but not entirely opposed to it either. I slept so well afterwards. I will bring music next time though.

I think it is some kind of hydro acupressure thing. You supposed to sit inside and it will close up (captain america style) with head sticking out on top? Maybe some infrared function for muscle healing or something. Purely guessing.

I was in it yesterday. I took a pic of the new one while waiting. Should have taken a pic of the actual machine I was using. It’s basically a wet sauna except you have the traditional Chinese medicines in the steam.

And yes, you sit in it with your head sticking out. They put a towel behind your head. Also the little ports on the cover let you manipulate the controls, scratch your nose etc.

Hah but I think this is serving primarily a Chinese market. Do they do that in China?

I was told not to shower right away after the steam. Let the traditional Chinese medicines soak in, I guess.

Did they do some diagnosis about your condition? Knowing chinese medicine, you shouldn't just blindly soaking in any chinese meds in your body. But, I am sure they are just some general meds that good for 90% of the population.
