“RMT” FYI

Im not going to name who or where but I think a bit of a reminder is in order.
Deep tissue massages can cause actual damage to muscles and nerves. If you go to a “RMT” ( note the quotes) and she digs deep and incorrectly you pay the consequences. Things like extreme muscle pain and numb limbs are not fun.
What recourse is there? None. If the RMT isn’t licensed/can’t give receipts I’m pretty sure there is no professional liability insurance either.

I agree with TBone. We appreciate the warning but without a name of the place or provider, your warnings are useless. Many of the receipts I’ve been given, I can almost guarantee are not from the provider but the owner or a single RMT, being the same name is on the receipt regardless of who I saw. Does this mean we shouldn’t go to any Asian masseuse or stop getting deep tissue? No.
This forum is to help us avoid exactly what you are warning us about.

I’ve been getting deep tissue massages for many years, because I suffer from soft tissue pain particularly neck and shoulders. Only twice have I been concerned about being injured. Once was Pon in Edmonton ( I mentioned it on a thread) and once in another province where she actually pulled my shoulder out of its socket and it’s never been the same. In hindsite I should have stopped the session when I realized they didn’t know what they were doing. So it’s rare but it’s there.

Pon was brutal. I had to jump up once at AD spa, she was killing me. She lightened up and the finished helped.

I had a massage a few weeks ago at Health Centre Massage Therapy and Sun Tanning on Stony Plain Road. It was brutal. I told the girl a few times to lighten up but she just wouldn't. Her English wasn't the best but c'mon!, reacting to pain doesn't require mastering a second language. Not going back as I am still suffering the consequences.
