HACKENSACK – A countywide investigation of 11 alleged massage parlors resulted in the arrests of a dozen women on prostitution charges, authorities said Friday.
Investigators seized $20,000 they said was connected with the arrests.
The weeklong investigation targeted businesses where workers "engaged in sexual activity in exchange for money," said Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.
The Bergen County Sheriff's Office, Immigration Customs Enforcement and several local police departments assisted in the investigation, which Grewal called a quality of life and human trafficking initiative.
The following women were charged with engaging in prostitution:
- Fong Zhen Wu, 53, of Flushing, N.Y. Royal Massage, Wyckoff.
- Ge Li, 51, of Flushing, N.Y. Royal Massage, Wyckoff.
- Ying J. Tang, 45, of Flushing, N.Y. Golden Palm Spa, Tenafly.
- Meixiang Deng, 52, of Flushing, N.Y. River Spa, River Edge.
- Chunmei Jin, 41, of Flushing, N.Y. Jade Spa, Edgewater.
- Mihwa Jang, 41, of Little Ferry. River Spa, Edgewater.
- Jimei Zhou, 33, of Flushing, N.Y. Aqua Blue Spa, Edgewater.
- Jinshan Li, 49, of Flushing, N.Y. World Health Spa, Edgewater.
- Shunyu Piao, 48, of Little Ferry. Heaven is a Spa, Little Ferry.
- Yougin Cho, 36, of Ellicott City, Md. Greenish Spa, South Hackensack.
- Kyung Rye Bae, 49, of Bayside, Queens, N.Y. Aztec Spa, Fairview.
- Chen Xu, 43, of Flushing, N.Y. Aroma Spa, Fairview.
All of the women were issued summonses to appear in municipal court and released, the prosecutor said.
