Hello,
I'm new here but according to the stats I've posted 63 times?
My 15 year old daughter, fell off a horse 9 months ago. She was wearing a body protector and hurt her lower back below where the protector fitted but also had some pain in her neck at the time. That pain went
Since then, the lower back pain has never really left but come and gone and so 3 weeks ago I took her to the GP for a referral to a specialist. We see someone on the 25th November.
Symptoms: Pain in lower back and more recently neck pain - possibly referred but who knows?
And recently after a rather vigorous sports session my daughter suffered increased pain and what I can only describe as nerve pain down her right outer leg. She was unable to put her leg down on her bed without being in agony - This is not my daughter who copes with everything.
At the same time she also had weakness in her right arm and hand with some numbness in her fingers. This went within 24 hours. The leg pain took 36 hours.
My concern is that my daughter is keeping up with her sport as much as she can and taking pain killers to dull increased pain. She's in her final year of her GCSE and I know she's worrying about her pass mark but I'm more worried about her health and do not care if she fails. I have a spinal cord which is a complete mess or so my surgeon describes it and so I would do anything not to put my child through a fraction of what I have gone through. I have told my daughter to stop doing any sport if she is hurting but I know she is trying too hard. Volley ball for instance is provoking my daughter's pain and she plays until she hurts but reaching/stretching we know is causing pain pain pain! Swimming is the one sport we thought was safe but even this is now causing problems as my daughter insists on taking it too far.
I'm not sure what to do because I know that if she does need to have surgery she needs to be fit and healthy and this will help her. I've looked up stomach exercises and suggested these to her today knowing they would help support her back and thinking I could change what she is doing and she told me not to worry as she can do plenty of sit ups! But alas she's in agony afterwards and now getting neurogenic symptoms because of her madness.
Is what she is doing too much? I have contacted the school about her back and the head of PE is aware but I think my daughter has bribed/lied etc to get away with what she has so far. Of course if she's doing the right thing then, I'll let her get on with it......but I'm not happy.....
PS according to my posts I've now posted 78 times since I wrote this and pressed preview. I'm being clonned
