Hi just been reading all your listings for back problems so I though I would join in, I am due to have an op on Wednesday 16th July for a L4/L5 discectomy, this will be my second one in 10 years the previous one was when I was 28 and that was a L3/L4. If my recovery is as good as it was last time I have nothing to fear, It just nice not to have leg pain after the op and I am more confident this time as the same surgeon is doing the op, which makes me feel more compfortable knowing that he knows what hes doing, Its just his name thats a bit alarming Mr Jellinek yep that right. When any of you went to your doctors originally did anyone have the fob off of pain killers (I have read some of your letters) its just that when I went to the doctors knowing the pain I had 10 years ago that something was wrong it wasnt just back ache its was back pain (doctors dont seem to know that difference) not one doctor examined me and just told me to take take tramadol, I walked away feeling disapointed and like I was a fake, during this time I went to see a chiropratic who diagnoised me with a bulging disc and worked on me over the next few weeks, I was advised that if it was going to get better it would or if it was going to slip it would, anyway after a few sessions I was getting better walking straighter and feeling better within myself, then disaster struck I was just getting ready for work one day and all of a sudden down on my knees I went with the most hurendous pain ever I had to stuff my dressing gown sleeve in my mouth to stop me screaming, with living on my own I guess this may have made me worse, I managed to crawl down stairs for the phone and propped myself against the settee to call my mum, I was then taken to hospital in the ambulance with the gas and air attached to my mouth, when I arrived at the hospital I was seen by another doctor who never examined me and sent me away with 6 diazapan tablets, anyway after this I booked myself into see Mr Jellinek privatley and he sent me for a MRI scan which showed that me disc has broken in two and the bit that has broken off is now lodged between my spinal colum and the next veribra down, So a tricky operation but needs to be done, with my other discectomy the disc has shatted and grown into my muscle in my back. So hopefully within the next couple of weeks I should be on the road to recovery, I will post again after the op and let you know, I wont be doing much else. I just wish that doctors would take a little more notice of people with back. x
