Yellowhead Horse 4-H Club members participated in their monthly meeting on March 15, at the North Thompson Agriplex in Barriere where they had the opportunity to learn about ‘Horse Chiropractic and Acupressure Massage’ with guest speaker Christine Westerveld.
They also had fun learning about horse conformation and structure of the hoof, with the senior 4-H members helping to teach the junior members.
The youngsters are looking forward to spring weather and getting back to riding now that the weather is improving. Currently they are learning the importance of getting their horses fit and healthy for a great season ahead.
Equine therapy practitioner Christine Westerveld attended, and explained what she was looking for and doing as she worked on 27-year-old Oakie (as seen in the attached photo).
“The kids saw Okie improve over one session,” reported 4-H mom Tracy Allen, “Christine volunteered to talk about what she does, not teach it, but explain the importance of listening to your horse and recognizing signs of pain. She was a superstar with the kids! ”
The following day Westerveld posted on social media, “Yesterday, I was lucky enough to do a presentation to the Barriere 4-H club. What a great group of kids and some great results on their horses. Thanks to the leaders, Tracy and Vicki, not only for inviting me but for volunteering their time toward such a worthy cause.”
