You’ve sipped teas, swallowed the supplements, and even tried some targeted exercises, but somehow the bloat is still there.
We can relate.
Sometimes you just need a little bit of relief now, and luckily, we might have the solution: a 5-minute, at-home debloating massage, courtesy of Dr. Lindsey Schmidt.
“The main benefit of the debloat massage is to stimulate gut motility (digestion), which helps with bowel movements and bloat,” shares Dr. Lindsey. “Other benefits include lymphatic drainage, reducing lower belly puffiness, emotional release, and easing menstrual cramping.”

Not bad, right? Here’s how it’s done:
- Using a clean oil, start at the top left of your stomach and glide down to the bottom left using light to medium pressure. Repeat this two to three times.
- Move to the transverse colon and glide from the top right over and down to the bottom left. Repeat two to three times.
- Lastly, do one last glide from the bottom right, up and around to the bottom left. Repeat this two to three times.
Dr. Lindsey notes that abdominal massages should be done “gently and cautiously,” and you should consult your doctor if you’re pregnant or have any health concerns. If you’ve recently had abdominal surgery, it’s best to keep this one in your arsenal until after you’ve healed.
For most people, this massage can be done daily if desired, but Dr. Lindsey typically sticks to two to four times a week or whenever she’s feeling extra bloated.
Bloat? We don’t know her.
