Hi all,

We have just done the Respiratory System but I’m stuck on this homework question -

How can holistic massage help with problems of the Respiratory system?

Please consider what effect massage would have on the diaphragm, intercostals and if you have learned about them the neurovascular points either side of the sternum, then consider what treatment is given to cystic fibrosis etc.

Usually you only need to think about what each type of dysfunction will affect what organ in what way and see if there is anything you can do can help and there is usually something

On a very basic level, massage will help the client to relax and encourage deep breathing and in turn relaxation. If anyone has asthma or other respiratory problems or even panic attacks, this may be beneficial in helping to regulate breathing, specially if you work with the breath during the massage.
