Firstly, a shout out to D in patong! I know you gotta still be enjoyin things there. See you next year!
Just wanted to give a few insights about our 2 month trip to Thailand with the good and bad. Pretty much was a great trip and our favorite vacation ever. I went with my wife and we both enjoyed.
We spent a month in Patong. We visited most all of the beaches around Phuket. I was really interested in finding some beach snorkeling and was quite happy to find what I thought was very good snorkeling. My fav spot for snorkeling was the north end of kata noi. Kata harn was another really nice beach we loved. I'm probably getting the names wrong, as we saw so many places in the 2 months, its hard to remember names and places.
I also enjoyed a massage every day of the trip. Most of them were good experiences considering how many different places and girls I tried. A few were duds and needed some more practice, but even a bad massage ain't so bad. I came across a couple that were so good I wish I could of brought them home. Price for an oil massage is 300 in Patong, but Pattaya and Chiang Mai had 200 baht oil massage places. Besides price, another difference I noticed was that it in patong I never noticed any place offering a shower after the massage. In Pattaya it appeared to be the common practice that a shower was always given after an oil massage.
Nightlife in Thailand is quite the shocker as compared to America. We had a good time in both Patong and Pattaya when it came to nightlife. Oddly enough, our fav bar in Patong was the popular LB crocodile soi. Always a good time watching the LBs do their thing with the tourists. A great place to view and drink is the second floor of the bar right to the left as you enter crocodile soi. Sunday and Monday nights they have buy one get one free drinks happy hour, which was one of the best drink deals we found in Patong. We did find Pattaya more to our liking for the night scene. Drinks were crazy cheap with some great bars with girls missing their clothing. The bar called Peppermint was by far our fav. 50 baht beers all night and great looking girls often wearing nothing. I thought Pattaya bars had better looking girls than Patong, but maybe I did'nt hit enough bars to give a fair judgement. In Patong another fav bar of ours was Sharkys. Always plenty of girls up on the poles and decent drink prices. We also saw a few lesbian shows and a ping pong show as well. We did not do any of the 300 baht drink bars, as we just couldnt see paying that much for a drink, when so many other options were available.
Besides Thai girls, next best thing was the Thailand food. Staying for 2 months we tried to find cheap eats and had no problem finding it everywhere we went. In Patong a good place to eat is the second floor of the Banzaan market. You can buy fresh seafood in the market below and they will cook it for you upstairs. We also often went to Careefour and had fresh seafood cooked there. Phuket town had some good cheap eats. Pattaya has a Careefour market as well, with a huge food court attached with tons of cheap eating options. Chaing mai had cheap street food everywhere you looked.
We did bus trips from Phuket to Pattaya and from Pattaya to Chiang mai and then back to Bangkok. Being in Thailand for 2 months, we had time to do the overnite trips and they really were'nt too bad. We would travel by bus again.
We ended up spending 8 days of our trip in Bangkok. Next time we would pretty much skip Bangkok, even though we enjoyed our stay there. We stayed in the Khao San road area and prefered that area over the others. Price of the hotels being a major factor.
Overall we enjoyed everywhere we visited. Highlights were the beaches in Phuket, the nightlife and girls in Pattaya, and the shopping and trekking in Chiang mai. Next trip I hope to visit a couple of islands. We would certainly spend a month in Patong again, and probably spend more time in Pattaya next time. As well as having a bigger selection of bars with cute girls, Pattaya wins the battle of prices being cheaper than Patong when it comes to most things including beach chairs! 100 baht chairs in Patong seems pretty steep in comparison to 30 baht chairs in Pattaya. The downside being pattayas dirty looking ocean water.
So thats that. A good time was had by all with pretty much no bad incidents to report. Phuket was as good as expected and well worth return visits.
Btw, we ate pretty much everywhere you can imagine and never got sick on any food. We even ate raw veggies and drank water from the tap at our hotel in patong. Probably got a bit lucky there!
