Abdominal Pain

A new client complains of lower rt quadrant abdominal pain, not of GI or Gyn origin. Fifteen weeks prior, it had started in her mid-back area, going across. Did not start in lumbar area, definitely mid-back. Drs. say possible nerve/muscle-related. Any ideas/resources?

Since the pain originated on the mid-back, I would suggest checking to see if you can find any trigger points in the rectus abdominis.These Tp's will refer pain to the mid-back in a band of pain across as well as the lower back.I have a lot of success working these tp's.

Thank you for your replies. I did see the ab. TrPs in the Davies' book for the across-the-back band. I will do that.

This client has had several medical tests (I hope they would have caught a kidney stone) and has seen a chiro. She's had this pain for 15 weeks.I saw the client today. She had a lot of TrPs in the abdominal area and a tight inguinal ligament. After she got up, she was flexing and extending her trunk and said she had a lot more movement. She definitely needed the massage. Whether this addresses the original problem remains to be seen.

I'm with the TPs for the RA as it doesn't sound that it would be bilateral TPs in either of the back muscle groups. Could be psoas, but still sounds more like RA. Good luck and keep us posted.
