Accredited Courses

Hi All

I have a question and hope that someone may be able to answer it.
I recently did an Indian Head Massage course and was told on the day that it had not yet been accredited. I was told that it was awaiting accreditation and the person running the course believed it would be. The course is registered and approved by several professional bodies.

My question is, will my certificate be acceptable for insurance purposes, bearing in mind that I took the course before the accreditation was given, or will I have to do another course? I would be grateful for any feedback.

Hi- I think you need to check this with the course provider.- If they are running the course, they should know how it stands with the insurance.

I'm a bit muddled though- do you mean that the actual course you did is approved- because if it is, who needs to accredit it? Having said that, if you've done it through a reputable body,all their courses should surely be accredited and if it's retrospective,my understanding is-that's fine- as long as it's the same content as the course you did! Confusing isn't it.........Hom

I would also contact an insurance company about insurance because I am covered on my policy to do a number of therapies that I have never trained in (like massage, reflexologg etc...) and when I asked the insurance firm if I started offering and supplying these services would I need to prove my competence to them and the answer was no. I do not have to supply a certificate that says I can do any of the other treatments I am insured for.

This may not be the same for all companies... Also I would look and see of there is an association for Indian Head Massage because they may have a deal with a specific insurance company and you will get a better rate because the insurance company wil set up a "scheme" for that associations members. This basically means the more members the better the rate etc...

I can insure myself through the BACP or ANLP for the same thing and I get a better rate (£90 less) via BACP because they have more members insuring themselves and have a better established "scheme" with their preferred insurer.

Hi Hom and Aikijason - Thank you for your replies. I will check this out with the provider. I know the professional body I am attached to will only accept qualifications from courses they have accredited and I know that their insurance will only cover an applicant for qualifications they have approved. That's why I am confused. I'll have to give them a ring.
Just as an aside - I did enjoy the course and thought it was professionally delivered.
