Acid Reflux, ribs, and spinal subluxation

Hi....Since havingback problems.. does or has anyone experienced Acid reflux; belching, severe air build up in the body...and/orone side of the rib juts out slightly but noticable..which causes problems and discomfort sleeping on that side especially...or maybe helping to lead to the acid reflux?.I've been reading some things on the net about about the rib dislocation, so to speak. But also about the connection between the Acid reflux and spine "subluxation/misalignment".

Hi Charish

It sounds like you've got a problem with your diaphragm. This may well be associated with your spinal/rib problems, and any treatment should address both aspects.

If I was you I would go see an osteopath! When you call to make the appointment, ask if theytreat the diaphragm or do any visceral work.With the right approach, it should be possible to sort out fairly easily.

Hopefully you'll have sorted it by now, but just in case - I would agree with Sorrel about seeing an osteopath, but would say that you wouldn't necessarily need one that with a special interestin visceral osteopathy. We're not that common and you're more likely to find a general (normal) osteopath more locally.

You may well be barking up the right tree with the rib subluxation, as you've probably already read - this is a very minimal type of dislocation. A full blown dislocation and you'd most likely be in A&E, following a serious physical trauma. []

It's very debatable whether the spinal facet joints (with the exception of the occipital-atlantial joint, atop of neck)can be subluxed, but they can certainly get irritated, 'locked' or the capsule around the joint be strained. Any of these can cause local &/or referred pain. []

There arevarious spinal possibilities for causing irritation to the stomach (particularly upper neck and upper back), so cause excess acid,and as Sorrel points out excess tension in the diaphragm could contribute also. But a structural osteopath should be able to deal with that too.
