acupuncture - ridges on nails

Hello

Could anyone tell me what deficiences a child has if hey have ridges lines on their nails vertically ???/ I have heard this is related to something with acupuncture .

Really?? The child in question is only 9yrs old doesn't have any liver problems.

chinese medicine does'nt recognise anatomical organs such as the liver like in western medicine. It pertains to liver energy. In a case of brittle nails they are under the influence of liver-blood which if deficient will lack nourishment and become rigid.

In order to decide if this is a deficiency you will need more symptoms to diagnose a treatment.

Strengthening the spleen and tonify liver might help.

Actually, the question specified ridges on nails rather than brittle nails per se. I have had ridges on my nails for ages and I'm a bit older than 9. I can remember researching it some time ago and discovering that it doesn't mean anything and is not harmful but I'm going to do another google now to see if I find anything new.

i have the same thing with the nails on my fingers, its not a problem until they start to crack or change colour.

Diet is the main cause, lack of fluids.

Thanks for all the replies-the child in question does suffer from mild tourrettes syndrome so the emotional element is there .... its just that his nails display more ridges.. ... he doesnt take much vitamins and its a struggle to get him to take omega 3 coz of the fishy taste.. I just didnt want to leave it and let something be brewing....so any advice would be helpful.

Try putting the omega 3 in a smoothie or in foods where you can hide the taste. I can't stand the taste of fish so I don't blame him for being reluctant to take it. Hiding the taste in foods is the best option.
