My first question was, “What is the difference between regular therapy and advanced therapy?” which proved to be an easy question for Sheena. She stated there are 17 modalities (types) and rather than just relaxation massages she delves into pain relief and corrective therapy. Sheena started about 25 years ago when it was difficult to find an accredited school to provide certification. She trained at the only accredited school in Texas at that time to receive her certification. Since then she has completed thousands of hours in many different modalities of massage and is currently certified in Florida, Arizona and New Mexico. She has studied in Japan, India, Africa, as well as various places in the United States.
Sheena wasn’t satisfied with the how and why of these types of massage. She spent time discovering where they started and what they covered. Starting in India, there is evidence of massage therapy over 7,500 years old. And we’ve all heard of Chinese acupuncture, which is documented at over 5,000 years old. A huge Buddha was uncovered where the organs in the body were drawn on the huge foot describing reflexology that was over 5,000 years old. So welcome to today’s technology that really started many, many years ago.
LaStone was first in the hot and cold stone massages. Thai provides an integrated approach to a full-body massage. There is also aquatic, arthritic, and the list goes on. Sheena tries to blend the restorative massage with the relaxation massage to provide an overall uplifting experience. This is not the usual case as the standard massage therapist focuses on a specific pain location, or total relaxation. And it is hard to relax when someone is kneading the sore muscles in your body.
Sheena will take appointments at the Center for Energetic Healing at 928-713-3782.
