Advice on Yamaha Ex-7 Synthesizer for newbie?

I found a local deal in which a guy is selling off a Yamaha ex7 for $400. From the research I conducted, it looks to be a pretty solid piece of equipment. Now the thing that has on me on the fence about purchasing it is that the equipment seems more for professionals than someone like me. I actually won't be using it for professionals purposes, it's just for fun and my pleasure: plus I'm a newbie as far as keyboards are concerned. So I'd appreciate if any music professional here can offer me some advice on whether or not to purchase it? Would it be a good investment? What about resale if it doesn't works out for me? Are there cheaper alternatives that I can use to achieve similar results that EX7 offers?
