To anyone that is interested...This past weekend I took a wonderful seminar with Michelle Mace.  (http://www.my2feet.com)   I feel this course has left a tremendous impact on me, and I do not feel my treatments will ever be the same!  I felt I retained more in her class than I have in most I have taken, as she wants you to come away from this class confident and inspired.  She is humble and honest, and passionate.  As far as receiving Ahh...Shiatsu, it was by far the most comfortable, deepest work I have received.And now if you will excuse me, I must jump off my soap box!  ;D

She came to our school to do a demo, and oh boy was it wonderful!She seemed like she would be an awesome teacher! She has tons of info and a passion for what she does. I could see that in just a couple of hours. If you ever have a chance to take her class (or even better experience a massage from her!) I would highly recommend it!kneadful... are you in Florida? If so where?

Talenyn,If I am not mistaken, Michelle is based out of Naples...check her website to be sure.Vicky,Due to a misunderstanding on the last thread (on my part) it would be safer for me to say it is not the same, but similar!  Since I have not taken an AOBT course, and only have taken Ahh...Shiatsu, I can only say it was worth every single penny and then some.Rain,Keep me posted...I am getting my bars installed tomorrow!

Harley...Oh My Goodness!  I am having so much fun, I feel like a monkey!  My clients are loving it...especially the guys that love deep tissue.  People have either been so excited they couldn't wait to get on the table, or they were a little hesitant about the whole "feet" thing.  To my clients that were curious but hesitant, I offered to give them a short, 5 minute demo.  If anything felt the least bit uncomfortable, I would stop immediatly and go back to a "normal" massage.  Only 1 person so far went back to a "normal" massage.   The others who were hestitant stated they could not believe how good it felt!The other comments..."It's a keeper for sure", "I will never be able to go back to a hands massage again", "Amazing, consistant pressure.", and "The deepest pressure with out pain".I am floored by how much fun it is to do (it is very hard to re-train your brain to work with your feet, but once you get there, it's play)It has taken so much pressure off my hands (although there are some small callouses building up).I am just now gettingoutof my practice seforum.xxxe, and starting to advertise it.  I will let you know how the response goes with people that are not current clients.I am having a blast!I'll update later...

Kneadfullthings.....Hope you are still having fun with Ahh Shiatsu!I am interested in taking Ashiatsu at the end of the year or  Ahh Shiatsu? (not exactly sure what the major difference is)I am having a hard time deciding which is best to take because both seminars are conducted around the same time in the Florida area.  Is there a difference in certification?  For instance, if I take the Ahh Shiatsu (which is a little less expensive), would I still call the modality Ashiatsu Therapy?Just curious....... for future advertising purposes.  Thanks for your input!Vibeorange

My experience with Ruthie's (or the AOBT training) is the courses are really organized, a lot of attention is placed on exactly what muscles are being worked, the level of pressure that can safely be used, contraindications are made very clear (she gets feedback from chiropractors and massage therapy specialists) a lot of humor is mixed in, and she doesn't pull any punches. Not everyone is given the ok to move on to 2-footed techniques, for safety reasons. She doesn't sell her ashi videos on the web for anyone to just get up on someone's oiled back and try out the moves. The Ahh Shiatsu training could be really good and maybe Michelle has some unique and excellent method of her own. If I was new to the training and had a choice though, I would go with the person (or instructors who've trained with the founder) who's actually been to the countries where barefoot massage has been done for centuries, who's done her research with health professionals, and has been working on this for years. The extra cost is probably going to be worth it, for one reason being AOBT is more well known in the general public and has likely more respect in the massage industry. Just my $.02

Sorry! -- I probably stepped on some toes here (not good for an ashiatsu practitioner!) by my last posting. I realize my last post (pro-AOBT) didn't really belong in this thread and should have found itself in the Ashi Oriental Bar Therapy category. I've nothing against Ahh Shiatsu technique (haven't taken the training), I'm just biased cuz I really liked what I learned in the aobt workshops.  :-/

I have been interested in taking the course as well. A client of mine was going to schedule a massage with a local therapist who does this but wasent sure if she could receive this type of massage due to her breast implants.  I told her she should ask.  Do any of you know if it would make a difference or not?  Thanks

It is OK for your client to recieve Ashiatsu with breast implants, as long as the surgery was not recent (I have to dbl check the 'recovery time' & my notes are at the office).She should make sure that she lets the therapist know that she has implants (have her mention this concern when she books the apt - we appriciate the 'heads up' ) and she should be bolstered accordingly.  We used a comfort bolster that has breast recessed cut out of it.Also, she should communicate any discomfort felt during the session to her therapist and a good therapist will respect and adjust to her level of comfort.Hope this helps!

She should wait minimum nine months after surgery, and bolstering is definetly the way to go.  As with anyone receiving any kind of massage, feedback is very important!Hope that helps!

Looks like the Ahh...shiatsu course is coming to Houston March 11, 12 and 13, 2005 and teaching Course I & II.  Any input on me taking them all in the same week-end, ya'll? Maybe, if I get lucky, I'll have the chance to take it!
