I have just come back from seeing an orthopoedic specialist on the NHS. I was referred to himby my doctor, as I have bad back pain and the doc suspected scoliosis.
Although my friends can clearly see I havea curve in my spine (s-shape), the orthopoedic guy didn;t think I had scoliosis. But he also made little sense as to the origin of my problem! Except that he pointed out my hips were both very different. When I came home and looked in the mirror I couldn't quite believe what I saw. My right hip sticks out and is curved, but my left hip goes straight down. It feels as though my right leg is longer than the left, and my right shoulder is lower than my left. The pain I feel in my back runs alongside the spine on the right. I feel in agony when working at the pc, and I'm about to qualify as a reflexologist and this is causing great concern and ruining my enjoyment as a therapist.
I am so lost and stuck to know what to do! I had hoped the orthopeodic guy would make sense as to the nature of the problem, so that i could go away and look for methods to self-treat. But I feel none the wiser.
My question is: How do you know if something is incurable or not? If my hips, legs and shoulders are different, does this mean I was born with one log longer than the other, or does it mean that my mis-alignment has happened over a period of time due to postural mis-use, and can be reversed. Is there a way of telling the difference?
And what can I do to reverse the problem? I'll do whatever it takes to re-programme my body, as long as I know I'm following the correct method. I just want to start using my body in a way that will undo the damage, if that's possible.
Does anyone know what my chances are, and how I can go about this?
I feel so desperate - please help if you can.
Many thanks, Loopy
