American Arrogance in sports

Why do Americans create their own version of everything and act like they made it in the first place.

1.Car Racing started in Europe but the Americans act like they invented it and promote NASCAR
2.Football is a world famous sport, but Americans are arrogant to accept that and like playing only American Football.
3.Cricket started in Europe but the Americans think they are better and invented an americanised dumb version called Baseball.

I dont know what is wrong with these guys. Can't they play what the rest of the world plays?​

All of the U.S.'s best athletes are plugged into the top level professional sports leagues playing on their soil.

Yet despite this they still are ranked 24th in the world. Not bad if you ask me.

As for the U.S. women although they were beaten by the Japanese they dominated that game and would beat the Japanese side 9 out of 10 times. The stars just aligned against them the other day.

I do agree but the Japanese needed this more than the USA. They now have something to be proud of and to talk about besides the radiation issues. Then again the USA will go bankrupt soon anyway.

OK, I'm not the world's biggest NASCAR fan, but it's far superior to Formula One. Of course, kids playing tag on the playground is more exciting than Formula One.​

I have to disagree with you here....formula one is far superior in the fact that the cars aren't just going around in circles......I don't watch either frankly but when I do, I find F1 much more interesting to watch.

Now if you want boring, drag racing has to take the cake.....

As for cricket/baseball. Abner Doubleday invented it didn't he? And just because 2 sports evolved in two different countries that are similar, doesn't mean one's a copy. You have to remember, back when these sports were invented communication wasn't like it is today. Good ol' abner down on the farm probably didn't even KNOW there was a country called England let alone what games they played......

BTW: Baseball is more similar to rounders than cricket.......but as wikipedia states, just because 2 games use a bat and a ball and "bases" doesn't mean they are offspring of each other......

Yeah odd, I read up on wikipedia after posting.

Kind of like how hockey is today, when you start adding rules and regs to address issues that arise, the games change over time.

I do agree though that the term "world series" really is a misnomer......but try and change it and I bet you'd have riots lol......

Well, ok, just because "football" and "football" have the same name that doesn't mean they're even remotely the same games. The same with cricket and baseball.

But a pet peeve. Soccer is OK I suppose. I don't watch it much, but when I do it's OK in short doses. The thing I don't like about it is this business of deciding tie games with penalty kicks. It's so incredibly anti-climactic. These are World Cup soccer matches - the absolute pinnacle of championship play in the sport. And instead of breaking the tie by playing soccer they take turns kicking the ball at the goal from 30 feet away (or whatever the distance is) and that's how the championship of the world (as in yesterday's USA/Japan match) is settled? Huh?

It's like having a World Series game tied at the end of nine innings and having the game settled by holding a home run derby.​
