Hi, i did this course 5 years ago, but when i went to apply for a massage course i was told by my local college that i have to retake the A &P course,as it has been to long since the last time i did it to train in somthig else, i already a reflexologist and trained in I,H.M.
Becuse i love what i do and want to retrain i am doing the A&P again, what i want to know as anyone else had to do this? or have i just been had?

Hi Froggy,

I have been told that your A&P exam covers you for three years. After that you have to do it again to refresh and update.

Are you sure Treacle? Why would they ask you to re-sit the exam, the A&P exam is a pre-requisite for many complementary therapies, so once you've got it it should be valid for life. It's not as if the body systems change and new information needs to be learnt!

Froggy which board did you do it with? I would ring them up and confirm.

No I don't think you've been had. The concept of "currency" and "recency" differs between examining boards, and I think that's what's being applied here. When I trained as an assessor way back, the cut off was 2 years: if your qualification was less than 2 years old you were OK, if it was more you had to redo it. So it's possible the cutoff point for your examining body is 2 years.

On my VTCT course we have someone who has a degree in sports science, who has had to sit the A&P course in order to get the full qualification. I think that's barking! However, it's been a blessing for the young lady he sits with, as he explains what the teacher says in plain English for her.

Hi, I know with ITEC A&P there was someone on my course who had a degree in human biology and knew far more than anyone else on the course, however in order to move on to other therapies she still had to do the A&P as a pre-requisite.

This is to cover our evolutionary nature which occurs every couple of years, you never know we might develop two heads or an extra heart valve or something which we would obviously require expertise knowledge to be able to function as a natural health whatever.

As you can gather this type of nonsense is one of my pet hates about bureaucracy going mad

I qualified as a registered nurse 20 years ago, then 10 years ago had to do A&P for my aromatherapy course. Then again for my reflexology. Coupled with more intensive a and p for my nutrition diploma...well if I don't know it now I never will

I was told if I wanted to do another course I would have to redo the A&P as its 3 years since I did mine, gained via VTCT>

.....as I haven't been a practicing therapist, I would feel happy to do it again, and a necessity as a lot of my knowledge is in storage, seems a piece of red tape for anyone who can show they are providing treatments etc IMHO
