So, it's the 10 yr anniversary of 9/11 and there have been a tremendous amount of programs on the subject. Some have been rebroadcast on PBS, with additional info etc.
One of the most interesting was on this FBI agent and how years before 9/11 (around the first bombing) he discovered this small organization called something like Al Queda and this financier named Bin Laden. After years of work and interviews etc he discovered a full blown world wide terror organization with major funding. Yet due to his brash ways, every though he warned, requested more resources etc everyone poo poo'd him and he was finally let go. Where did he get a job? In charge of security at the WTC.
He also discovered (and this one was actually arrested) one of the terrorists taking flight training and knew about 2 others from his investigations on the Cole bombing. He also knew these two terrorists were IN the US on legal visas.
The frontline story went on to highlight how the CIA had information but wouldn't share it with the FBI and even how the attorny general to the president used to call on O'Neil for advice and information (another fact that rippled the feathers of those in power at the FBI).
One thing with many of these programs that made me realize that the terrorists will always find a way. This is a given when you have people in positions of power, positions that can prevent things like this from happening, who are more concerned with politics, procedures, and the like than actually doing what needs to be done. I tell you, if I was Obama? I'd be convening a senate committee on just who had ignored O'Neil's warnings and if they did, simply because of personal differences, I'd be having them up on charges of dereliction of duty.
There was another special on a crew filming a probie fireman assigned to Ladder 1. They were IN the stairwells in tower 2, and had footage of the firemen inside the buildings. It was presented by state farm with no commercials. It was an amazing story of the first responders and how they made it out alive with only seconds to spare.
One other fact that came up when they all went down to dig for survivors: The EPA came on and Gugliani came on to assure everyone that there were no health risks yet thousands of firemen, police, emts, etc all have severe health problems, cancers, and are dying left and right. Once again, those in power shouldn't have been and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that when you have asbestos dusts, pulverized plastics, chemicals, fireproofing, etc and gases in the air, and you breathe that air, there's going to be trouble. Again, if I was Obama I'd be having an investigation into this matter and if the head of the EPA bullshitted, heads would roll.
