another nerve block injection

I've recently had another nerve block injection. The first one eased my sciatic pain but had no effect on the dreadful back pain. This time it has really worked and my back pain has almost disappeared. What a relief to be able to get up in the morning painfree!. I hope it lasts.

I have just found this site and find it very helpful. I have sciatic pain that is mostly in my right buttock. I had an mri scan in April 2008 which finds L5/S1 prolapse. My lower back is "fragile" but I am very "back aware". I can only describe the sciatic pain I have is like having a toothache in my right buttock 24hours a day 7 days a week etc. I have a nerve block in May 2009 and although it gave me a bit of relief, I am again climbing the walls with this ache. Can you advise me whether the second nerve block is still effective for you?

It is generally accepted, that you should only have a maximum of 3 nerve root block injections 'or' epidurals in 1 year, and even then, there is a limit to how many you should have in total. This is because the ingredents of the injections destroy soft tissue and cartledge/joints etc: This was proven by footballers who used to be given too many injections for knee injuries over years of treatment. The effectiveness of each injection will lessen every time, no one really understands why!
