Another newbie laptop/internet question?

Okay, I purchased this laptop. I still have no idea how to connect to the internet without hooking up anything or paying for anything. I'm already paying for DSL on my desktop computer. What else do I need to get for this so I can simply access the internet on the laptop anywhere? I'm totally new at this so please be specific. Thanks!

If you want to access the internet wireless-ly in your home, you need to purchase a wireless router to plug into your DSL modem.

If you want to be able to access the internet from ANYWHERE, inside and outside your home, down the street, at the office, in a restaurant, etc...
You would NOT need a wireless router, but instead you would need to buy a 3g wireless broadband modem for your laptop. You would buy one from your cell phone company, since it is essentially a USB cell phone for your laptop. You would pay a fee, then you would pay a monthly charge.

You need a wireless-capable router.

Buy the router, connect it to the DSL modem per the instructions (set it up using the desktop computer), then fire up the laptop and search for the wireless network.

Just get a good brand: Netgear, Linksys and D-Link are good ones. You don't need anything expensive or fancy.

if ur laptop have a wireless lan get wireless router for ur dsl to have a wireless connection on ur laptop u can also use usb device dsl which can be accessed anywhere but u will pay for it as u r paying for ur dsl and for wire connection use ethernet port as u are using on ur desktop computer

Well the computer has WIFI, so you can connect wirelessly. It can also be connected by wire.

If you want it to be wireless you need a router that supports wireless activity by providing an access point. Your laptop will do the rest by finding the acess point and automatically entering all the necessary information. The only thing you may need to enter is the password that you use to lock your router.

If you just want to run a wire. Just connect an ethernet cable to the back of your DSL router and then plug it into your laptop.

You need a router if you want to be able to access the internet without having to plug a cable into the laptop. That way, you can go anywhere in your house and get online. However, if you don't know much about computers, hooking up a router can be a pain in the butt. It will give come with directions, of course. It just may be a little time consuming. Some popular brands of routers are Linksys and Belkin. You can get them pretty much anywhere
