Another Question --- Pedestrian Traffic Light When Entering TJ

Yeah, the light is for random customs searches. Takes the human element out of the equation. If you get a red light, its a mandatory search.

If I think it's the same light you're talking about, that's to remove the human element for the random searches. Let the machine pick by rolling the dice, and avoid the appearance of bias.

Tijuana seems to me almost like New York where not that many people pay attention to pedestrian red lights? However, they do watch for traffic, and fast on coming cars, because if you don't you could get seriously hurt, as Tijuana drivers can be crazy.

A few guys have written that when they cross the street between Adelitas and Bar Tropical that a few of that cops stopped them for jaywalking, and then ended up hitting them up for a bribe on unrelated charges. I don't know if that's true or not? But just in case I never jay walk across that street in front of a cop, but rather go to the corner to cross unless I'm in a hurry and then I don't care.

It is pedestrian secondary....just like you get sometimes when crossing by car. They just check quickly and let you go. I think I got it once in 10 years and about 20 times by car.

Yes I was stopped just once by the cop near the pedestrian light, this was like one in hundred. I was carrying a sportsbag, of course no guns or things like that ! The guy did open my bag and did a cursory search. If he had done a thorough search he would have found dollar bills hidden at bottom and also some OTC medicines for cold in full view. He didnt say anything, I dont know what was the purpose.

When immediately entering Mexico from the USA and walking that corridor to get to the second set of clanking gates there is a pedestrian traffic light that is sometimes manned by a Mexican policeman...About 30% of the time passing there I've been asked to push this button on this "traffic light" and thus far its always come up green...I always take along a small pull along suitcase when I go to TJ with a change of clothes, snacks and sundries...
