Another take on client gifts

I am giving little soaps to my clients at the insurance company I work at. (My private clients will get more massage time or free upgrades)

I put them in a basket and they get to pick out what scent they prefer.

Why does it feel awkward? Should I just pick one for them? They also seem so surprised that I would give them a gift so I wonder if its not the norm to do this?? Before I arrived at the company, there were many previous MT's, some there for years but maybe they never did gift giving.

I really wanted to do something, even ifs its a small gesture. As there are probably 75 clients, I couldn't spend much. Last year, I had just started there in the beginning of December and they bought me some great stuff. Now that I have gotten to know so many of them, I wanted to show some appriciation.

For years I've made gifts for my clients. Because I'm an aromatherapist I make lip balm, bath salts, etc. Occaisionally I have a client who doesn't do scent so I make/give them an alternative such as a bookmark or candle.

I too want to express my appreciation & they really seem to enjoy it. I've had people later want to purchase some of what I made. So it's actually been good for my business.
