Any Changes in Patong Since April 2010 ..?

Hi guys and Gals ,

ill be arriving to patong on the 29th of April and since my last visit April 2010 i heard the scene is changed alot .. could you guys / gals tell me whats new and whats changed and whats the new scene in Patong?

i've heard alot of things changed .. need info please ..

Or to put it another way: There are so many changes, that it is not possible to write them all down. If there is anything specific you want to now, like "Is X bar still there?", or "Does Nid still work at Y?", then ask, and I am sure someone will be able to answer.

ok if you want specific things ... hmmm there is a small bar in Soi Sea Dragon .. on the left alley when you enter from bangla they have a small band .. a nice cozy place is it still there ?

thats one of the things i wana know .. and i wish if you guys could update me with everything

well every year i visit patong i feel its changing into another pattaya .. some of the good things are gone .. for example i've heared new night clubs opened = alot of young tourists clubing = more drunk young guys fighting or making a fuzz in the streets

unlike the old days when there was only tiger , Banana , Shark Club and at the end of the night we hit safari sometimes .. the old days the main fun was relaxing in a bar chatting and having fun .. now its more like clubing and loud noise... i think from my last visit in 2010 compared to my first visit in 2001 either im getting older or the town is becoming more like pattaya ..

its hard to explain the feeling guys... but things are not like what they used to be .. plus the prices of everything is doubled .. in the past you could get a nice sea food dinner for 2 for almost 1000bht now 2 people in any resturant expect like %50 percent increase .. i dont know is it the market or its just jumped...

in the past no hassle you just BF a girl for 200 bht then in the morning give her a 1000 bht .. they never ask "How much!?" now before you even tell her that you wana take her ,, she will ask you while walking to the hotel "look tilac !! i need 3000 bht!?"" and if you say no .. she just leave .. and wast the whole night .. im not saying all girls are this type but i've seen the same treatment that the girls in pattaya shows to visitors is actualy moving to patong.

plus in the past i used to take a tuk tuk from Kalim bay to bangla 100bht .. now just to take us around the block 250 bht !!! i can get a cab in BKK and drive me from soi 20 to any where in less than that !!

Patong used to be for the Mature tourists ... now its all kids !! 17 18 19 yrs old bar hoping drunk fighting yelling in the street and ive noticed alot of fights between BG and visitors more than what it used to be .. i think the type of people visits phuket are changed .. unlike in the past .. when i used to ask friends to come with me to phuket they laugh at me and call me "old guy!"

Prices have gone up a lot, for sure, some much more than they should have / more than you would expect.

The visitors have changed; more people from different places, and probably a wider range of ages. A good thing or a bad thing, that is up to you.

In the end it is your choice to go back to somewhere which is changing, so will not be the place you remember, or try somewhere different. Bear in mind that we change in our expectations too.

Snowy we have the same problem here it's like $300 for a round trip from Kuwait to bangkok and every time I fly I notice groups of kids no older than 18 on the plane, in our days we used to work hard to get to Phuket these groups are like spoiled kids they get an A in school and their moms buy them tickets and give them money for the trip , and the parent thinks that their kids are going for sea trips and diving if only they knew the truth .....

There are two bars that could be.

First one on the left is Tum's Bar - still there and open until 4AM plus.

Further up was Coyote Bar but I haven't seen a band there since the renos to SSD.

i think you were paying much to much in 2001..no wonder the bg loved you 5555...on a more serious note....things have gone up all over the world...if you think back to what you were paying in your town 10 years ago you might be shocked how cheap it was compared to today....yes patong has changed...lots of the old hands perfer the old bangla..i do....but all the newbie's still love it and in 10 years might be longing for what patong looks like now...hard to believe...as for all the young guys around....we were all young and stupid once...im just not young anymore 55555

You've just gotta look forward Starz, not back. Imagine if you had been there in the 1970's and 1980's
Plenty of fun to be had and Phuket is still not Pattaya just yet.
Have you been to other parts of SEA? Many things are still the same or at least a few years behind places like Patong.

Difficult to answer; it is not really something I have stopped to consider.

Having lived here for a few years I have rolled with the changes, and am not affected by some of those that visitors experience. There are places that I don't often go now for one reason or another, but have discovered other places that I enjoy. Overall, I just accept the Phuket that I want to know, as it is.

Phuket, and Thailand is not my home, and never can be. When the time comes I will move on, as I have before, knowing that there are other places that I have enjoyed, and probably new places to discover.

Sorry, a bit of a nothing answer, but that's the way it is.
