any pattern to make wool/fleece table covers?

I was wanting to make my own face covers and table pad out of fleece, and was wondering if anyone had tips on where to buy the fleece fabric? Does JoAnn carry this? I always get coupons for that store for 40-50% off so I am hoping to save some $ by doing this. Right now I just have an egg crate cushion on my table, and it tends to "squeak" if it gets bumped.

Any tips are welcomed!

I can't help you with a pattern but you may want to consider making your face cradle covers out of cotton flannel rather than fleece. I purchased some polar fleece face covers and many of my clients cannot tolerate the fabric because their face is too sensitive to it!

i agree with lovely day, i don't think you'd want to use fleece as the face cradle covers. but as for a pattern for them, one thing you could do is take apart one that you have that you really like, then trace the pieces to make a new one. i suggest tracing the pieces onto a brown paper bag to use as your "pattern" for future pieces. the other thing you could do is to measure using the actual face cradle. you'll probably have to sew a few before you get one you really like. also, let me give you a tip for your table. you may want to layer it like this....table, egg cushion, fleece table cover, then a fitted sheet that always stays on and THEN your fitted sheet that they lay on with flat sheet and a blanket on the top. the reason i like to use the extra fitted sheet is that it helps keep everything in place. and the beauty of that is you could just take the measurement of your table, cut a piece of fabric from joann's and toss it on your table. that fitted sheet will keep things where they're supposed to be.

hope that makes sense! (i bought some silk fabric a while back to make some face cradle covers...i think your post just kicked me into geer to actually do that. i like the silk because it stays a little cooler than other fabric) good luck and have fun sewing!

thanks for all the tips.....about the fleece for the face cradles...i was planning on just putting a piece of fleece down, then putting my cotton cover on top. I see that these are sold as sets (table/face tops) all over the internet. Are you all saying it still is too hot or itchy to do this? I am talking about the fleece that looks like a lamb coat, not fleece that is made for hats/mittens etc...

I got some of that from http://www.sciplus.com but you can't really dictate what you'll get. You could try http://www.brettunsvillage.com to see if they have some, might have to call'em. They are great if you like leatheah.

RE polar/arctic fleece...I've not had a complaint using it for FCC. Where I interned used it too, gosh, had a feller prone for 90 minutes once. I like it because I can cut 12" squares and do a half slit for the nose area...no sewing, no raveling, no pilling. If you buy remnants, try to get in sizes of a third of a yard...one third/two thirds, etc...otherwise you have huge fcc's or leftover fabric. Not such a bad deal, can make eye pillow cases from the scraps. Use something slippery for the eye pillow to help it to slip in.

Yup, that Brettuns link will work. Kind of funny to read the descriptions and look at the pictures...might be fun to make a lotion/oil bottle holster from some of that leatheah.

I AM speaking of polar fleece. It is very soft to touch but so many of my clients have asked for a pillow case to cover the polar fleece that I switched over to cotton flannel for face cradle covers. Too bad. Now....what to do with all the polar fleece covers? :?

Hmmmm, at this big chair massage event today one feller that had a good massage (she was using the premade/purchased paper FCCs) came back and got a cm from me, also a good massage. I was using my polar fleece fccs and he commented on how nice they were. The other 3 were using paper towels. I guess I'll continue to use them, and not fill in the landfill. LOL one lady was using one paper towel for the fcc, and when she'd use 3 squirts of hand sanitizer, she'd use another paper towel to swab off the excess alcohol stuff.

I made my table cover. I bought 60" fleece from Hancock's Fabrics (my table is 30" and simply cut it down the middle. I went around the edges with a zigzag stitch just to reinforce and keep from raveling. Then I got some strong elastic and sewed it on across the corners (about 3-5" from the point of the corner). It works really well. I also bought some foam padding from the same place (1-2") and cut a piece about 1/2 as long as the table. I couldn't afford foam for the whole table. This added to the comfort as well.
