Anyone just do Reflexology?

Is there anyone that is just a reflexologist, or is everyone qualified to do other treatments too? Do you think that you have to have other strings in your bow?

Hi Lilac,

My mum said something true the other day, I was feeling down. I passed my exams last year, it was a real achievement for me as I've had ill health in the past and other problems which have slowed me down. I was saying no one is just going to want a Reflexologist when they can have someone who does it all, Reiki, Massage, etc etc She said " When someone comes for Reflexology that is what they want ."

I imagine if you work in a shop they may expect you to have multiple therapies, but you could become super skilled learning new Reflexology techniques on mini courses etc you can impress this on people.

I am hoping to do Reflexology mobiley in the future, but not as my only occupation, as I realise it can be tough.

Is this an issue for you or are you just interested?

I have had reflexology many times, including helping with ovulation problems, and more recently for SPD.

I am just worried that it just reflexology wont bring in enough clients, and therefore may need other therapies such as massage, aromatherapyetc to complement it.

I am thinking that if I do some other reflexology based courses (post grad courses) which I can add to a routine to give me a certain 'uniqueness', then this may help?

Hi I am qualified in Indian Head Massage, very quiet at the moment. I qualify as a Reflexologist at the end of March. I am also doing a Holistic Facials course on 6th March and doing a Baby massage instructors course as this is seeming to be very popular - holding classes at community centres, etc. I think it is personal choice........if you are happy doing just one therapy and specialise all the way such as maybe doing a post grad, or maternity reflexology, reflexology for cancer patients etc then great, or you may want to add to your list of treatments. To go alongside my reflexology I plan in April to do a pedicure course, that may seem more appealing to those who want a little bit of pampering after a reflexology treatment - their toenails being painted......I have a foot spa so they can have too as part of the treatment.

The list is endless with therapies - but then so is the cost!!

Good luck I am sure you will make a great therapist - just be confident in yourself and it will show.

Lilac I commenced with aromatherapy and then the class was advised to acquire 'more than 1 string to their bow'. I now have reflexology and swedish massage as well as non-medical nutrition. Thankfully i'm only interested, at present, in evening work since to get clients is proving very difficult indeed. I do agree with Smooky re 'becoming well versed in one therapy' in that one would hope that experience would help attract clients, so my emphasis is on a blend of aromatherapy and reflexology treatments which is well received by those I do treat
