anyone try Lomi Lomi massage

I have a choice between hot stone and Lomi Lomi massage seminar to take. Has anyone received Lomi Lomi or do you practice it. What is Lomi Lomi and is it a relaxation massage? I'm new at massage and wondering which would be better for me to take, hot stone or Lomi Lomi. Kinda need answer to this quick...seminars are next weekend!

I've never had a lomi lomi massage, from my understanding it shows you a lot of techniques to use other than your hands, but I may be wrong.  I would honestly do a search to see if there is any sites that might have a demo of the technique so that you can see for yourself.  It might be something that you can incorporate into your existing massage.  I really don't know how much of the general public would even know about the technique to request it.  I honestly didn't even know it existed until I was seeing ads for it in the massage journals.As for hot stone, I am certified and took the seminar.  It is something that is usually only requested during the colder months, if you are in a warmer climate I honestly wouldn't take the class since it wouldn't be benificial to you in the long run.  I personally don't like doing them or recieving them, I prefer real hands on.  It was nice, and I warmed up very quickly, but it is too much of a luxury to get it done.  Plus I hate having to check temperatures, and letting go of my client etc constantly.  I am glad I took the course because there have been requests for it and I would rather not turn away money so I do it.  I honestly thought there would be more of a demand but they charge too much for it at the spa and she doesn't pay me any more than my regular wage to do it.  But it really depends upon the demand in your area, I did it only to pad my resume, and I am not someone who is comfortable watching a video to learn the skill.

lomi lomi is a hawaiian technique that is passed down from one generation to the next.  it uses a lot of forarm strokes and elbow strokes as well as prayer and herbs for healing.  it is very relaxing and can be incorporated into your existing massage techniques.  you should pick something that appeals to you, something that speaks to you.  as for marketing,  it is on YOU to educate your clients and get them interested in different techniques and not wait for them to ask for lomi lomi or hot stone

Take Lomi Lomi.There is more opportunity to use it than Hot Stone.  Also with Lomi Lomi you are more likely to pick up little techniques that you can use in non Lomi sessions.Hot Stones are great but the opportunity to use it is less frequent.  So get it next time.

I have ordered the Lomi Lomi videos. And yes do take the course. It is very good. I have also had a Lomi Lomi massage and it is very good.It feels great.

Lomi lomi you will be able to incorporate into any massage you are currently doing.  (You are currently a massage therapist?  Or a beauty therapist, or something similar, adding some form of massage?)It's a very flowing style, you will be dancing around the table with the footwork.  A lot of it is done with the forearms and elbows rather than the hands, so it can be a very good way to give your hands a break.  It is totally portable, no equipment required, just you.  It's a massage that does well in display stands at festivals because of the dancelike moves, there is something to watch.  It moves a lot of energy around.Hot stones, amazing if you do it properly, but a LOT of work to set up and clean up after if you're only doing it for an occassional client.  It does save your hands because you can work deeply with the stones and heat, but then you put your back out lugging the stones over to the sink to wash them  If you're doing a lot of massages each day, I'd recommend stones, it makes it easier, the more stone sessions you get per day.  If you only see one or 2 clients a day, it will seem like a big effort to set the stones up.  BUT they do feel wonderful and it does pad out your resume. Who is the training with?  How long have they been working with stones? There are poor teachers out there becuase it is a fashionable treatment.  Do you know anyone that has done the course? A mediocre/bad stone treatment is very off putting for the client.  Have you had any stone treatments?  (Actually these questions apply to any style)Stones are not portable, you can offer them for home visits easily, you can't have different clinics all over town each day of the week and lug the stones around, stones are heavy, heating them is bulky, not easily moved.  You'd want to work from your own place or for somewhere supplying the stones. You don't want to carry the stones home after you're finished for the day.....I do both.  I actually will heat up about 11 stones for a lomi lomi and use them (for a full stone session I use about 70 stones), the lomi lomi moves with the stones are wonderful.  So I'd say do both

I have taken the hot stone class and in the area I live there is a request for it alot,  especially in Winter.  In the Summer months I still have a few hot stones ready to go, but I limit it too just a few working ones because they are FANTASTIC to use on areas that are really tight and the heat helps get in there with the solidness of the rock. You don't have to use rocks for a whole body massage.   Works wonders.  I just finished with a client and used some stones for the rhomboid/scapula area she loved it and said she has had hot stone massage before and doesn't care for it but she loved this.  I also really want to take a lomi lomi class too. But right now I really need to get my prenatal certification finished and then take some myofascial/craniosacral classes then will see.  It's hard to decide.    Good luck in what you do.  Oh, by the way my certification in hot stone is LaStone.  Diane

I took an intro to Lomi Lomi massage in school and also was introduced briefly to stone massage.  Personally, I like receiving Lomi Lomi more than stone massage.  It just feels better to me.  As for giving, I have a rather large chest and found that that gets in the way of me performing Lomi Lomi without destroying what I'm wearing.  And just knowing that my chest is that close to and possibly touching someone's body is not comfortable for me.  I would love to offer it at some point...maybe after a reduction.So, as mentioned before, research both and go with the one that sounds more interesting to you.
