Hi Jeannie,
My partner has had some back problems including sciatica and she eventually gave up with the GP and went for an alternative. She tried something called Spinal Touch and I went with her for the treaments to see what it was about. Essentially it involved getting her to stand on a flat board with her feet in a certain place and then the therapist checked the alignment of the spine, neck, shoulders and hips against a plumb line from the back and the side. From this itwas determined how "far out"her posture was. Once this has been graded, the therapist got her to lay face down on a therapy couch with a bolster underneath so she was positioned in a certain way, and then applied pressure at a certain point around the buttock whilst massaging very gently in little circles certain points across her back. After the first session she could already tell that she was standing differently, and another check up against the plumb line confirmed it. In all I think it took 4 sessions before she was totally straightened up, but it definitely made a difference for her.
