Are chica fees pimping?

Here's a thought that I've never seen here before.Remember we are dealing with Costa Rica where nothing in this area makes sense. Hotels that charge a chica fee for "each" chica that enters your room,could be interpreted as "making money from prostitution". Charging for two in a room is perfectly normal,however charging for each chica could have a different connotation. Boy would I love to see the morons close down the Holiday Inn for pimping. lol If not for making money off the backs of chicas,how else can they justify the extra charges. After all they normally do nothing extra in the room.

Good point. I don't know if it's pimping because legal definitions and interpretations vary, but they are definitely making money from prostitution. They don't charge a chica fee if a man and a woman sign into a hotel room from the start of a stay, so there's a difference there.

I don't stay at places that charge chica fees, but it would be nice to have more options without paying an exorbitant fee to bring a chica or chicas back to my room. I have a feeling that that if chica fees were not allowed, hotels like the Holiday Inn in San Jose would just not allow guests in rooms. It's funny, in Asia I've never had problems bringing back two scantily clad chicas at once to various Holiday Inns. Never a fee, never even a question.

The way I see it, if the local government wants to harass the sex trade in San Jose, they are going to be able to put most places out of business for good before the courts intervene.

Not so sure about the CR goverment but IMHO if you are making money because of the services "rendered" by a prostitute than you are involved in the 'pimping' business !

I also would love to see the Holiday Inn have trouble over this. Would love to see the HI CEO grilled about this on camera.

100% yes. Why. Because they never charge you when a buddy goes to your room .

To avoid this , they will have to charge this fee for every visitor, not just girls.

And no, this in not a charge for 'double occupancy" because these "guest" are usually visitors not occupants.

According to the Costa Rica law pertaining to pimping: Any one or any business receiving money, or finanical or material gain, in any way from the promotion of, or act of prostitution by another person is committing the act of pimping. Therefore the REY and all other hotels charging a chica fee are technically pimping.

Also using an obscure and never enforced law concerning wheel chair access is a blatant example of the selective enforcement of Costa Rica laws. If enforced equally, over 90% of all businesses and government offices in the country would be closed.

All of this resent activity is , IMHO, just a easy way for law enforcement to apease the old prunes (many of which are fat ass old gringa bitches) who have nothing better to do with their time, and who think they are helping society and stopping the explotation of women.

I am definitely no expert-just offering an opinion.You know the chica fee upfront you can choose not to pay ofcourse that means no guest.Management has no idea of how long your guest will stay,there usualy is different priceing for 2 to a room.Management also has NOTHING to do with what you pay the girl and there are other considerations(more towels etc.).I believe this gives the hotels a very defensible position in this matter.One more thing by taking guests I.D. your basicly registering them as a guest even if only for the short term.

That is not question. Off course it is instituted to either increase revenue, in some cases, ie the HDR or to discourage mongers, ie: the Holiday Inn. The question is does the practice of charging a fee for a female guest to visit and not applying the same charge to a male guest constitute benefiting monetarily therefore qualifying as pimping?

Ah, I see. Maybe the inference is a male would never be a "guest". Also, I'm sure if you pointed out that you were bringing a male as a guest, they would (happily charge).

It's a lot easier to spot a "guest" from the lobby when its a chica. But I do understand the point. At the same time until someone reports that they brought a male guest back to thier room and notified the desk, we won't really know.

that's the part i don't understand, if a male friend stops by and has a drink in your room, no problem no hand out for money, if i bring a chica back for 3minutes of foreplay followed by the obligatory 2 minutes of sex, hotel wants $10-25. i just think it should be overnight guest charge extra. 2-15 minute guest no charge. just how i feel.

If I may engage in pure speculation for a moment.....Using BangBang's definition of 'pimping,' I can see why a hotel charging a chica fee would not be considered pimping. The hotels are not charging for the 'act' of prostitution. A pimp would take a cut from the 'act' (sexo). Although massage parlors don't directly gain from the act of prostitution (as they charge a fee whether sex occured during the session or not), I can see where they might be promoting prostitution.

If you were to use the broad definition of pimping, as someone who profits from the act of prostitution, then condom vendors would be arguably culpable.

All of this discussion is moot, however, unless you know how the Costa Rican authorities and courts interpret prostitition laws. Myself, I have no idea, but because the massage parlors operate relatively freely, I could infer that the courts do not consider this to be pimping. I might be completely off base however. It is inherently speculative to apply US constructs to a legal system that is not rooted in common law.

Many men and women come to CR looking for gay sex. (just ask Paco and friends) Isn't it discriminatory for a hotel to charge a "chica fee when a guy brings her into the room.However if a man brings another man into his room for the express purpose of paying him for sex....NO HOTEL CHARGE.In fact I doubt if they even check his cedula or passport.The same is true if a woman brings another woman into her room. Now if a woman brings a man into he room.....there's a tough one. I still say that they should close down those self-rightious bastards at the Holiday Inn. At least the DR has it's charges out in the open,and it's only $10. The HI charges $25-30, and the unsuspecting Gringo usually finds out when he checks out. How much is the cost of turning your back on this activity?
