are credit cards accepted at hotel saunas?

I tryed to use my card in a dept store on one Sunday. Not working! They told me that my card was not able to be verified because of banks were off. ????

CapitalOne offers a Visa card with no foreign currency transaction fee. The bank doesn't charge one, and they waive Visa's normal 2% fee. It's "what's in my wallet." (No, I don't work for them.)

The bigger ones do, like the old Yuping and Shanghai Hotel saunas but I *think* they only accept Visa/Mastercards. It could be an exception though as my cards are with the larger, well known international banks like BofA and Citi so I assume they know those are legit. Still, I would strongly suggest that you carry cash instead of charging it on plastic considering that banks like to rip you off(I would know, I work for one) by charging you a 2-3% foreign currency conversion fee. Not really worth it as most large Chinese banks would give you pretty straight up market exchange rate for currency conversion.

only for some chinese credit card(those issured by chinese bank) i think.

... just curious. i know it's riskier leaving a paper trail, etc.

i noticed one of the places in the sauna list thread mentioned credit card, so i'm curious if this is a rare thing or generally acceptable at hotels. I know at smaller places it's strictly cash only.
