No they don't, however they do keep an eye on the police. The police are always well behaved when the army is in town.

Obviously more military is always better....when it is mellow it is often a direct result of the military. I have been seeing lots of soldiers around town, and even some at the border when I walk in. I have no idea what the current numbers are, but hope the military stay for ever.

Military are present at vehicle entry to Mexico and if you are in a van , truck or SUV it should be expected that you will be pulled over . Their search is a bit more intense then the smaller vehicles crossing so expect to see military at the border ( Vehicle ) in addition to regular agents on in coming traffic.

The Zona is quite comical ( opinion ) in that 3 or 4 policia vehicles can travel thru having a taxi or two behind them then the military or Federal polica may follow. It is mind boggling as to why but it does happen and every once in a while you will see ; masked TJ policia , masked federal policia and masked military. within a 10 minute span. Greez , this is as comical as hot-nuts saying I said street girls in the Alley

Mexican authority is a reality lately but would add their attention is on locals not tourist.
ave never seen the Federal police or military stop or get out of their vehicles to do anything. It is more like a Rose Parade but the horses are missing , no one could hear a band playing anyway and no one gives a dam in the first place

Actually, it is quit funny two or three of TJ's finest , new pickup trucks could be at the south end of the Alley rousting locals and two more of TJ's finest might try to be entering the Alley and all they know is to honk their horns all the while the polica are the ones stopping traffic in the first place

I'm not exactly sure if they are military or special police force teams, but they are heavily armed and out in force. They are often in large trucks in groups of six to eight and there might be two trucks traveling together. Almost all of them are carrying what look to be automatic assault weapons. Several cover their faces.
