Greetings

I am in the planning stages at the moment and am looking for qualified Complimentary/Beauty Therapists in the Norfolk/Suffolk area who may be in terested in work from clinic in Norwich or Bury St Edmunds. The clinic hopes to be able to offer an extensive range of complimentary/beauty treatments - all under one roof. Possibly also offering clients home visits as well. Positions availabe would be for qualified therapists part time/full time.

If you are interested please send me details (only by e-mail at this stage - not telephone) of which area you would be itnerested in working, your qualifications stating if it is part time/full time work you are interested in and whether you are Self Employed or would require PAYE.

Although i am currently looking at property through my research , it is always useful to ask other people, so if anyone knows of any suitable shops/buildings to rent in the Norfolk/Suffolk area that would serve as a complimentary/beauty clinic, i would appreciate any details.

I think you are putting the cart before the horse on this one! you either have premises and are offering a treatment room either hourly, half or full day to self employed therapists or you are prepared to employ someone to work in the said clinic but neither can you do until you have an establishment and the necessary insurances etc in place.

Now since you are still in the planning stages have you considered a cooperative type arrangement where say five or more therapist club together and share the start-up and running costs and split the profit???

Thanks for your comments Paul. I know it seems that I am putting the cart before the horse as you say but as I am putting a business plan together I want to do research into the availability of therapists available in my area (as there never seems to be anyone in my area for therapy swaps). Also I am tryijng to establish whether or not it would be viable to have self-employed staff or PAYE. There are many options open here as to whether the person will require full time or part time work.

I am also doing research into the cost of renting premises. Everybody has to start with a business plan and i think it is crucial to have as much information as possible, to avoid any surprises later. Also I know the bank managers prefer a good solid business plan that has been given a lot of thought.

The intention is not to go into partnership.

I hope this makes more sense and perhaps you may have further advice to point me in the right direction.

Hi Patricia, you really really should stay away from employing people and probably need to find out a bit more about your liabilities in that area.

Most therapists are self-employed and this would be a far better arrangement for you and they pay their own tax etc.

Where I work we hire the rooms out at an hourly rate or for a session of four hours and the client pays the therapist direct which is a lot less hassle for you the employer putting the money though accounts and paying it back out again etc. You might like to think about that?

Another tip - always get any therapist you are thinking of employing to give you a treatment before any commitment. Remember, they will be your reputation. It doesn't matter how good you are - if you pass new clients onto them and they are not good enough - you will lose the client.

Thank you for your advice, I know what you are saying in relation to employing people - it can be costly and there are quite a few legal implications.

I know it is essential to ensure taking on good qualified therapists as a reputation can take a long time to build but can be lost so easily.
