Arrogance vs Confidence

I find confidence in either a man or woman to be one of the biggest turn ons there is. However, arrogance is a huge tun off. Where do you think the line between these two things is?

I have to join the fanclub too, Rawd? That's a good one.....

Though it's funny, (women in particular) can look at the same guy and some will say he's confident, and others will say he's cocky or arrogant. A big indicator is when they spout off about how they are the only ones who can do something write and everyone else does it wrong, or everyone else is wrong. I think that boils down to the fact that an arrogant person needs to put others down in order to boost themselves up.

I've known quite a few arrogant guys in my life and to a one, they're all insecure little babies inside. I think that's the main difference between confidence and arrogance: confident people aren't insecure at all, arrogant people are.....

There's a fine line indeed and it's drawn in different places for each person.

Arrogance doesn't need to be vocalized to be an overbearing smugness that goes beyond an assertive confidence that would be an impressive quality in a person.

But it's a good indicator.

I've been called both, and I've been both at different points in my life.

Here's something else I've learned:

Confidence is not allowing what others think of you to determine how you feel.

Arrogance is not caring about how others feel because of what you do.

Brad thinks Rawd drew the distinction the best. Though it's worth adding that arrogant comes from the Latin arrogare (to claim), which usually was about claiming that which you are not. So to be arrogant is to claim that which you are not, which Brad knows because he's frakkin awesome.

Arrogance is never sexy -- I am not sure if an arrogant person would become an FB. Altho I realize that some folks don't always have the experience to see the difference between confidence and arrogance (which results in friends and families always saying "what does he/she see in that girl/guy?" lol


Arrogance is also the belief that the rules don't apply to them; they can do whatever the hell they feel like with no regard for the consequences or fallout from what they do/say.

One thing I find interesting is the text world we live in. Sometimes it is difficult to be confident without sounding arrogant thanks to the fact that there is little tone or emphasis in the words you write, for example on a board like this. What sometimes can be said by a smile or body language has to be written down, forcing someone with confidence to now "tell everyone about it".

I think I once typed to a lady I would be visiting soon that I think we would have a great time once we finally met. And she replied 'what do you mean specifically?' How do you reply to that without sounding arrogant.
