Arthritis in feet

Hi everyone!

I would like to ask for some advise on a client with arthritis in the feet. I have treated people with arthritis before, but regarding the feet, the worst I've treated is someone with a slightly arthritic big toe - which she believes has benefitted from reflexology.

For someone with arthritic feet, which are slightly deformed, and the lady is on medication, would you advise to do reflexology on the feet or not? I assume you would proceed more carefully, but should I treat at all (have asked her to speak to doctor, but would like to hear others experience of arthritic feet).

Reflexology can really help arthritis but it is hard to help you on this one as it depends how painful your lady's feet are. You really need to work with her. Every case is different.

An option may be to use hand reflex if they are less painful.

Hi again

Thanks Gaiaholistix for your advice. I met the lady and gave ger a treatment this week. We chatted a fair time before commencing to understand her condition, pain levels, etc. It was clear that the hands were not an option, although she carries out some self help on some acupressure points. Her feet were fine to work on, although toes tricky due to deformity (bent, leaning, and bunched up). However she favoured firmer pressure which caused her no discomfort and she is keen to continue. She has realistic expectations and we will agree a treatment plan to suit time and budget, which may involve more frequent but shorter sessions.

I hope it will benefit her in many ways and wonder what outcomes others have found in arthritis cases,
