ATMs @ MPs

Hi guys I know this isn't a review but it does pertain to those who use bank machines at MPs. I recently had a problem with a bank machine.

Here are the details......

Tried to take out $140..... machine was blinking dispensing for an irregularly long time and nothing was happening.

So the manager unplugs the machine and restarts it.

I repeat the process and find that $280 has been deducted but I only recieved $140.

I was told that I would have to call the ATM company since the machine is not owned by the mp. So I call the company but its after business hours so I can only leave a message.

So what is the point?

1) We should be more careful when taking out money for hobbying.

2) Does anyone know what my chances of getting refunded by the ATM company is? I kept the one reciept and the ATMs records should show that I only recieved $140.

Anyone with experience dealing with something like this would be greatly appreciated.

BTW I didn't mention the MP because I have used their ATM at least 10 times in the last year without incidence. Heck I've used ATMs for over a decade if not longer without any problems so I don't want to blame the MP.

That was very nice and mature of you not to report the MP.
Hopefully, they kept the machine unplugged if it was
malfunctioning.

I would assume you should not have a problem as those companies
are directly involved with all the major credit card companies
and companies that process transactions with the major banks.
But I would think that you would eventually be directed to your
bank to solve the problem once the ATM company confirms the
error. My friend had a problem like this a long time ago, I
thought that's what happened if memory serves but I can't
remember exactly what the protocol was but it did end in her
favor. Those machines are balanced as to the transactions and
the amount of money put in and taken out. The difference will
show.

Hold on to that slip with your dear life. I hope it didn't
affect the mood for your session.

I have to admit that I was in a big panic thus checking back on massageplanet.net so soon to see if anyone had any advice. this has been weighing on my mind for a while now since $140 is $140 and I have yet to resolve the issue. I think I will be more aggressive about it.... waiting for a response to the message I left is killing me.

As for the session thanks for asking....

The good part was that it did not ruin the session maybe I should give credit to the MPA but that would then expose the name of the spa or at least help someone narrow it down if they were to do the detective work. In any case I can't blame the MP since its not like they did it on purpose seeing as they have nothing to gain from it.

The superstitous part of me is saying its a sign that its time to quit.

Ok... first of all I work for a private ATM company so I know how the whole thing works. First of all, the proper thing to do is report this to your bank and file a card holders dispute. Tell them the transaction time, date, and number (from your receipt) and that you did not receive that amount. If they balk at that, ask to talk to a manager. By law, they have to help you. They then file a trace through interac. Interac traces it through the switch/network that authorizes the transactions. They then contact the company that manages the ATM to get a copy of the electronic journal. The Journal tells them what happened. They will never ask you for your receipt. It Is not of much importance other than telling you the transaction number so there is no ambiguity of the transaction. If the owner of the ATM cannot provide the journal the network is forced to authorize the reversal no matter what happened. When they figure out what happened, they will credit it back to your account. I warn you, this WILL take a couple of weeks, so be patient. Calling the ATM provider number can help but generally does not speed up the process that much. There is no point in going after the merchant that has the ATM in ther premises. They are strictly instructed NOT to give out money and they do not need to. The tracing will get you your money back.

Damn this board rocks!!!!!! I can't believe how fast I'm getting answers to my question. I used to laugh at the posts from guys saying "looking for the best X for tonight." I never figured responses would be so quick. I already started the ball rolling with trying to contact the ATM company. I'll stop in at a bank tomorrow to get things started on that end as well.

Question..... do I have to go to my branch or will any bank belonging to my card be okay? I hope the latter is the case since it would be a hassle to go to my home bank.

I completely understand about the panic. I'm the same way.
That's why I asked about the session. I probably could not
have had the session if I was a guy. When something is on my
mind come hell or high water, I need to solve it. Don't you
hate it when at one point your home branch is close to you,
then suddenly, they merge 3 banks into one farther away.
Then you finally get to the branch and 40 people are there
paying a cable bill or cashing their GST cheque. Damn banks.

Oh well, look at this fiasco this way, you could of used
your card to withdraw $500 for oh ...I don't know...say..an
autographed photo of Sheik in the buff...and the machine
took $1000. How would you feel then? LOL

Well I heard back from the company.

Tag I was it.

I called them and using the reciept info we tracked down the transaction and the person put in a request to have the charges reversed which should take 10 business days. I was also given the number of the person's manager should things not occur within that time frame.

So I was happy that it really only took two phone calls and one reciept to correct the problem. I was imagining tons of paper work and being passed from one person to the next.

So whoo hoo.

Moral of the story? Always check your balance otherwise you might toss the reciept before realizing what has happend. I bet that would be a nightmare to track. Also, I hope the gives people a heads up of how to correct the problem in case it ever happens to you.

I got jacked by an ATM at a bank for $50.
My bank did an investigation and initially told me sorry but they found no error. When I asked for a copy of the investigation they decided to give me the money (it was not worth their time). From the conversations I had with the with the bank manager I was convinced no investigation was made.

If they don't make it right keep hounding them.

The so called "White Label ATM's" are becoming ever popular. They are this way because its cheaper for a locatoin to have it at their location than a Bank labelled machine. Usually these White Label's give the location a cut of their profits, while taking higher service charger from the card holder. You pay for the convenience. They are all bound by Interac, and have to follow the rules and regulations.

That being said, the Bank machine clicked saying that it was dispensing money. So you might have a weird case, I feel the machine is going to report that it gave you the money so you are shit out of luck.

I wish you the best of luck, and please do tell us what happens of your complaint. If they give you a hard time, perhaps go through the Better Business Bureau or even go to Interac to complain. I guess the circumstances around the location of the machine will make it awkard.

I know a lot of people will probably disagree with me, but my word of advise to anyone is to stay away from the "white label" bank machines...these include the ones at the Casino's and Petro Canada. These are developed by third party developers, and have not gone through testing like the bank developed machines have, thus more prone to give you problem. Plus, the extra service charges is just crazy!
