Avoiding The Contra-Indication Areas

Hiya everyone

I was just wondering, would it be okay to give reflexology to someone with athletes foot or a verrucca if you wear latex gloves..........or would this risk spreading the infection further for them?

What if you were to avoid the contra-indicated areas, could you still go ahead with the treatment or not.

Personally, I wouldn't treat anyone wearing latex gloves. I would rather not treat at all as I think the barrier this would create would detract from the treatment.

Because athletes foot is usually damp, I tend not to treat people with this condition, but usually apply some tea tree to the area with a cotton bud and tell them to do the same at home.

As verruccas are usually more contained and assuming that there aren't loads of them, I ask the client to use a waterproof plaster and just work round the area.

I also wouldn't treat someone while wearing latex gloves [:'(] and agree with what Lesley said. Athletes foot - go away and get treated first. Verruccas - cover during treatment and advise how to treat or to see a chirpodist.

Sometime ago had to have a course of antibiotics, which gave me quite nasty athletes foot, I was having a course of Reflexology at the time from a friend of mine, who covered the infected areas with dressing and plaster and continued to give me a treatment wearing latex gloves.

Now, I wouldn't say it was the best way to give a treatment but I still fell asleep by which time, as the recipient, I didn't notice the gloves at all!

This is just my experience.

Got rid of the atheletes foot by dabbing with tea-tree & lavender last thing at night but prior to that soaking the foot in hot water and vinegar morning and evening for about 35 minutes.

Hiya Ladies,

Thanks for your great replys, I didn't really want to start wearing gloves to do a treatment, but I didn't want to have to say no to someone over just a small area. Will keep a supply of plasters in case I come across verucca's and tell client to come back when Athletes foot is cleared.
