back in the swing and need a little guidence

so as mentioned in a previous thread after an almost 3 year break I am getting back into Massage. When I say break I just me as a professional...I still maintained my studies and practice with freinds and family.

So I start back at a small spa as soon as they are finished remodeling. Servies and prices are up to me and the owners says he pays 50% and will pay for all needed materials! So...I want to price my services at a fair level. As well as offer as much as I can....

So far here is what I have...

Basic relaxation

Full body (normal 50-60 minutes) $55.00

back,shoulders (average 25-30 minutes) $25.00

I am also completing the Belavi face lift massage which after practice on Hubby have decicded to include cld stone face massage, and a hand and foot treatment. at 90 minutes are so i am thinking to charge $90.00

Depending on how long it takes me to do just the facelift I may offer this alone to. I think the face lift massage takes 25-35 minutes. Does anyone do something similar? I think Just the facelift with the basic products I will look to charge between 60 to 75 but include the neck, shoulder, and back as stated in the hand book.

I also sell all natural spa products and do a foot soak with my parties and am thinking of adding a foot treatment that would include a foot soak, warm foot wrap, and foot massage with a special foot balm that I also sell. this would be 45 minutes and I plan to charge 40 dollars.

I will be speaking with the spa owner and hope she will allow me to promote the products so I can make a bit of extra money on the side. Anyone do this as well (selling products within their employers place?)

The second place that offered me a job would allow me to do this.

I also plan on having massage add ons such as hot stone to back only as I find stone massage cumbersome and have only been comfortable with doing the back and neck area with stones.

cold stone for face which Hubby says he woudl pay just to have that done.

and a hot oil scalp massage similar to a shirodhara as mentioned in a previous post as well. add ons will range from 10 to 20 depending on teh service.

So what do you think? Do you feel I bring enough to the table as a therapists? I want to offer a few different things so I am not stuck just doing massage over and over. I need a little change and spice in my massage roster!

any other ideas, or am I putting too much on MY plate?

The cold stone belavi face lift massage sounds awesome! Sign me up for opening day! :
Prices are what I would pay in a small-town spa. A more upscale spa in a larger city and I would expect to pay a lot more for that menu. Not sure where you're at but I'm sure you've "shopped" around to see what other spas are charging in your neighborhood.

It sounds to me like you are well-rounded therapist and can really bring a lot to this new spa. Best of luck to you!

sounds great! the only question i have is that when you stated your massages, why does it say 50-60 minutes or 25-30 minutes? i'd be leary as a client. i'd want to know how long my treatment is going to be not how long it "might" be. just a thought. also, i'd keep the longer sessions. i know i don't like it when places chop 10 minutes off my session and i can't be the only one who feels that way.

the cold stone sounds awesome. i've been wanting to offer this myself. good luck to you! i take it you enjoyed the belavi face lift course? i've been knocking this around myself.....trying to decide if i should take it or not.

Perhaps this is jumping to conclusions about what she means on the time, but I would assume that she's allowing for some time for intake, disrobing, etc... as a part of the "hour", and that a client might only end up with 50 minutes of actual massage.

Personally, I think it's better to have a policy to "meet or excede" expectations. Give them a full 60 minutes (or perhaps a little more) of "hands on" in a one hour massage. Ask them to be 10-15 minutes early for their appointment, so that intake and other preparations may occur before the actual scheduled time, and don't schedule so tightly that if the client requires a few minutes after the massage before dressing, getting some water, etc... that they will bump into the next appointment.

This, of course, leads to a great question... "How much time do you allow between appointments?" I'll create a new thread.

Most of the places I have worked at did this. The spa massages were more like 50 mins. At the DC and the school prof. clinic it was 55 mins.
When I was going to the school prof clinic after a car accident I was only getting 45 mins. and they billed out $150! When I was a regular client I got 55 mins for $60.

Personally for me - I don't like when appointment times are shortened.
As a MT I would much rather have the full hour or more - not less.
As a client - I would feel short changed since most of the time you are still paying the hour price for 10-5 mins. less.

the minutes we just for you guys. But there are times when I have finished a massage a little early 3-4 minutes or over 4-5 minutes. I just need to express to you on the baord the time frame I am looking at filling. Also depending on the client...I find it very hard to keep up 60 minutes when a person is very skinny or small..LOL. Silly Iknow but often I feel like I run out of things to rub! This is where the add ons woudl be nice for both the clinet and myself! I may even consider giving a free add on to first time clients like the stone massage, just to get them to realize how wonderful it is!

I too have worked at many places that stopped at 50 or 55 minutes or how about a 10 minutes that was billed to insurance for 55 bucks!!!

I plan on filling the whole hour. and also plan on having paper work filled out as NOT part of the session. I also plan on having ample time bewteen clints so NO ONE is rushed!

sorry I wasn't more clear...I was asking for input on the services themselves. time is time and everything doen right has its time limit.


so can I please get some input on the actual services or any ideas that may have worked for you?

I offer a headache massage. 1 hour with work to the feet, face, head, neck and shoulders. I add heat to the shoulders while working the feet.
Something a little different. It can be used during a headache or to help prevent them.
