Arrived on time for my appointment with my regular physio session at a well known university area clinic. Checked in with the receptionist: "J will be with you shortly" "my appointment is with N" "N is not available, she is under the weather today, J will be seeing you". Then the argument started.
My point is that I made an appointment with a specific physiotherapist and if she is not available, I should be notified and it is MY choice whether to see another PT or wait or go to another place. The receptionist's point is that this is a professional clinic, patients see whichever qualified professional who is available. It is the clinic's job to make sure that the professional is qualified, beyond that, patients see whoever is available. She asked, when I go to a medical clinic, do I pick and choose which doctor I see? I responded that yes, I have ONE specific doctor and I only see him and whichever specific specialist he recommends.
Given the clinic, I have no doubt that PT "J" is equally qualified as PT "N"; in fact, looking at the website profile after the fact, J has way more letters behind his name than N. However, during the heated discussion, I walked out, leaving myself (and probably the receptionist) angry. A simple update call in the morning telling me that my regular PT is under the weather and if I would mind switching would have made every one happy.
I know it is off topic for this forums so I may be venting aimlessly. However, if any of you know of a good physiotherapist (approved by both Blue Cross and Sunlife) who is equipped to deal with old neck/back injuries from hockey, please let me know the clinic's name. It is time to venture out of my comfort zone and try different clinics; I hated going to the U while classes are in session anyway.
