An Australian boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a massage therapist in one of the many parlors in Bali, Indonesia. The police have now begun warning tourists about lurking pedophiles in one of the most popular tourist destinations across the world.
While visiting Bali for a vacation, a mother, and grandmother of a 12-year-old boy were ushered in for a relaxing massage at a popular parlor in Bali, Indonesia. However, the masseur for the 12-year-old boy allegedly sexually assaulted the child in the adjacent room. The police have taken the massage therapist into custody and charged him with committing multiple crimes. They have additionally started issuing warnings to spa owners, asking them to be vigilant against pedophiles and sexual predators.
The 12-year-old boy from Perth, who hasn’t been named owing to legal reasons, went along with his guardians to Damen massage in Kuta on Saturday, May 21. Getting a massage while in Indonesia is part of a tourist experience and thousands of people actively seek massage parlors. A traditional Indonesian massage involves the use of relaxing oils and aroma therapy. However, tourists flock to parlors to experience a rigorous rubbing down by one of the many experienced masseurs. The trio was looking for such an authentic experience, but are now in the midst of a police investigation.
The two women were each ushered into separate rooms while the boy was taken into an adjoining private room on his own and into the care of 47-year-old masseur Abdurahman, reported KidSpot. Thereafter the masseur asked the boy to strip naked and lay face downwards for the massage. He reasoned that the massage oil will stain the pants. The unsuspecting boy obliged. However, a little while later the massage therapist became aroused after seeing the boy’s genitals and asked him to turn on his side, shared Kuta police chief I Wayan Sumara.
“The victim suspected something was off, so he turned his head and saw the perpetrator’s penis. The boy ran and found his mother and told his mother what had happened and they immediately came to the police station and filed a report. The boy was in shock after the incident, the parents can’t accept what happened to their son. But the police were able to ensure them that we will investigate and protect them. They calmed down and cooperated fully.”
After the distressed mother rushed to the police station, officials visited the Katu parlor and took Abdurahman into custody. They have also seized a pillow, the man’s pants, and a bed sheet, reported 9 News. The police chief added that though the family were completely and understandably “shocked,” they have remained in Bali and continue to assist police with the investigation.
According to the police, the massage therapist has been in Bali for about five years. After his arrest he was charged with sexual assault and faces a maximum 20 years in jail, reported The Sydney Morning Herald. He also faces other charges including committing an act of violence or a series of lies in order to persuade a child to conduct a lewd act. The massage parlor hasn’t released any official statement about the incident. The police have yet to confirm if the parlor would be allowed to continue to operate.
After his arrest, the massage therapist was paraded before the media at a local press conference, where the police chief cautioned parlor owners and operators about screening their employees.
“We caution all spa owners and managers to be very careful and to ensure their spa is not being used by pedophiles or sexual predators to pick their victims.”
Appallingly, the masseur confessed that he had “homosexual relations” with at least 15 people, including males or transsexuals on earlier occasions, but stressed that all of them were consensual. The masseur added that he was employed at another spa in Batubulan, a village in Bali.
