Bars Clubs and Music

On my various travels around Pattaya, Hua Hin, Phuket etc I have frequented many a bar, pub, club and disco etc.

One thing that really strikes me is the music. It basically falls into 3 categories; Thai/karaoke, Rock and ferkin Hip Hop Gangster Rap.

Now don’t get me wrong I like a bit of Thai music, I like a bit of a sing song, and some good old rock now and again, but all this Hip Hop I can really do without. But there is not much choice, as soon as you hit the well known clubs and discos that's all the choice you get.

Where can you find a decent pub/disco with a proper dance floor that plays some proper music? By this I mean soul, motown, disco, funk, 70's and 80's stuff etc.

I don’t want to necessarily discuss musical tastes as I know everyone is different, but would there be much demand for this kind of musical establishment in say Pattaya?

Does it already exist but I aint found it?

Be interested in any views.

I have never found that kind of music being played.. Basically most of the bar customers werent born then so not going to be likely..

Please, Disco is dead and gone. That was an era I don't ever want to see come back.
I'm over 50 but still prefer rap to disco.

Robert's bar in Kata/Karon has a good band as does Timber Hut in Phuket town.

A friend of mine who owns a bar just off Thaweewong Rd said the reason he didn't buy a bar on Bang La (just opposite soi katoi) is because he would have had no say in the music that would be played in his own bar!! As the music they play there drives him insane, he bought a bar elsewhere.

Yes, it's true that disco is dead and gone. One can only hope that uke: rap/hiphop will meet a painful death very soon and disappear for eternity.

I like rolling stone bar on walking street for the music, pretty good band singing a lot of the old songs, in fact thanks to this thread i am now going to go there in a couple of weeks rather than head to phuket, thanks for that.

Couple of people on here have agreed with me on this bar.

It amazes me the number of people I meet in Pattaya etc who say the same kind of thing, they cant stand all the hip hop, yet there is NO alternative apart from the other 2 categories I mentioned.

Im thinking a "soul shack" someplace with good dancing music would go down a treat in somewhere like Patts?

I was thinking about this before.........maybe the last thing your thinking about is the music!

But I still wish there was an alternative to all the hip hop crap.

Most hip-hop has a simple fast beat you can feel and easily dance to.
The bar girls thrive on it...especially the real lookers..
If I refuse to play hip hop they get all pouty and wander off.
I like reggae and ska in the bar (the UB40 DVD is still very popular with the staff)
When they want to dance its hip hop or nothing.:beurk:
