Im not sure why it is interesting. These doctors do not say what they base their findings on, nor if their conclusions are based on clinical study or specific research.

Statements such as, "HIV can be transmitted by oral sex, though this does not occur frequently" doesn't mean much. Can be? How possible? Can be as it has happened before, or can be hypothetically? Can be, as in if a person with massively bleeding gums gives head to a guy with a large cut on his penis?

This article was way too vague for me to hold my interest at all.

All government publications are compelled to address the risk of oral sex and AIDS because there's a miniscule chance it could happen... but it's not a practical concern and you can tell if you read the findings closely.

Clamidyia, herpes, HPV, gonnorhea, syphilis etc... they are far more liable to be transmitted but don't get the focus because they're not dramatic like HIV and the bacterial STDs can be cured.

They also give 'lip service' ( if you'll pardon the expression ) to the very important variable of whether the man actually ejaculates into the throat of the person giving the blowjob. That would make a big difference I would imagine.

You have to remember who's driving the agenda in the US govt. The current administration is anti-choice on abortion, against sex education (unless it's fear-mongering about AIDS), and promotes abstinence only programs, even withdrawing funding for agencies that distribute condoms in Africa.

The agencies have to toe the line and report any HIV risk from oral sex no matter how statistically insignificant... which any educated person who has looked into the subject knows is not worth worrying about.

I've seen many polls directed toward teens regarding sex. I can't remember the exact percentage, but so many young teen girls are now performing oral on multiple boys, as they do not see it as having sex. As these were senior doctors hired to compile this document for the government, maybe it is a scare tactic for the kids. Good call Westcoast.

I always hate condensed versions of reports as well. Arbitrary points can be selected to support any stance.

I don't think people realize how difficult it is to get HIV, especially for a straight guy.

It needs a direct pathway into your blood stream.

You can't get it from straight skin contact. It's not like the other std's.
