hi!we're in florida, and have worked in south florida, tampa, and daytona beach.in any market, there is the challenge of prostitution in our name, from both males and females.so basically, it comes down to what therapies are you offering and the strong professional marketing message you create. your attitude, behavior and attire will help bolster your business image.you may find that if you work part time in a medical setting or chair/corporate work and part-time on your private clients for a number of months, it will help you enter the market and transition to a full-time private practice succesfully.do you live here already or are you planning a move?

I am just thinking of moving to Florida at the moment.It would most likely be south of Tampa or somewhere on the Gulf Coast near there.I don't want to work for any medical type of establishment at all.I am a very self-employed massage therapist only.I appreciate your feedback.I would be starting a massage business from scratch afer being in business for over 8 years out west.Are there certain areas of Florida that are more receptive to massage than others? mush, what do you think of the Tampa market and massage receptivity?

massage has been regulated in florida since the early 1980's. we're deeply entrenched in the community consciousness. most metropolitan areas have massage of all types offered; i wouldn't necessarily say one area is more holistic than another.

the most requested massage is relaxational with focus work on the trouble spots. as an independent therapist, this is mostly what i do, whether i'm working with local residents or tourists.

body/spa treatments are popular here. exfoliation is most popular; followed by any hydration wrap. muds and seaweeds are next. i do not offer wraps that promote inches loss, but i get inquiries for these services.

i lived and worked the tampa market. since i left there, the metro area has grown significantly, both in the general population and the massage population. there are 6 or 7 schools in the tampa/sarasota market. receptivity is high, but again, there are people that are 'ho-ing' in our name and in tampa, particularly, there are a number of 'asian' massage houses, whose advertising does not come across as highly legitmate, but this is my opinion and i don't have any proof that they are not.

overall, the tampa bay area is a great place to live. housing is still affordable, and the culture is abundant no matter your interests.
