Beware of internet banking scam

Folks:

I normally am not on this board, but confine myself primarily to the Windsor board, which is connected to this one. I was not sure if people here look at the Windsor board, so I thought that I should post it here as well. Last night, I got an email from a company called "Suntrust Internet Banking" saying that they handle the internet banking for Charter One, which is my bank. The email went on to say that they had evidence that some third party had access to my account.

They requested that I log on to their site, and type in my personal information so that they could stop it. If you get this email, DO NOT DO WHAT THEY SAY AND PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION! This is phony and they are crooks! Two things made me suspicious. One, I had never heard of this company. Two, there was no email address to reply to. Something is fishy! This is a ruse to get access to your bank accounts.

This morning, I stopped at my local Charter One branch, and spoke to people about this. I also sent an email to the online banking department, telling them all about this. I then checked my accounts and my balance totals were correct. Again folks, I am not normally on this board, I see ladies in Windsor and operate normally on that board. This is important, and I was not sure how many of you here, look at the Windsor board. So I decided to post it here too. Better safe than sorry. Whatever, I just wanted to spread this important info to as many people as I can. Even if you are not Charter One customers, you might get this email too.

My sons girlfriend fell for one of these things recently.

When I did take her to the bank - Charter One LOL the gals were telling us that so many people come in with letters from online - copies of their drivers license and so ready to do what the letters state.

There are many that fall for the phone scams and the email scams and I feel bad for them because alot of them are senior citizens that do.

I told my sons girlfriend not to give out any info to anyone LOL

When you are scammed this way it's worse than a cash n dash because at least then ya get a peek at the girl eh

That's why you're better off doing business with a smaller local bank, like Flagstar, Warren Bank or Oxford Bank.

I get these scam letters all the time from Chase, Citibank, BankofAmerica, BankOne, etc. I know I'm not one of their customers

Of course I am in Ohio LOL

But I am helping my sons girlfriend learn - she's young -

She'll be Ok now since I ( am helping her learn )was Like Umm what the Hell were ya thinking -
No they don't have joint accounts or at the same bank!!

Funny this thread came up. Just this morning I got an official looking e-mail from someone representing themselves as E-Bay saying my account had been suspended due to tampering with my account.

In order for me to reinstate myself I was to go to this website which had a fully laid out form in E-Bay format which asked for my name, address and all. Checking account number and social security number! Right!!

I was going to review the site to EE-Bay when I got home but it has already been taken down.

My guess plenty of damage had already been done because of people not thinking twice before filling it out.
