Hi guys, nice to type to you all
Let me tell you my story, about 7 months ago i was out drinking for a mates bday party. An (ex)mate jumped on my back whilst i wasnt expecting it. I slipped over and landed on my stomach, my mate then fell and landed on my lower back area. I wasnt in any pain at the time. Couple of days later i had a 5aside football match, im a goal keeper, after about 20mins i experienced my left quad getting very tight, it was almost like cramp but not quite, also i had pain in my lower back. It was very sore so i limped off the pitch. I rested up a week incase id pulled something, however when i got back to playing the pain started shortly after the game was started.
This time i rested for 3 weeks, got back to footie, pain again in my back, left bumcheek and left quad/thigh area. I decided i should go visit my GP, who said i probably just had a lumbar sprain, he prescribed me Diclofenac and something else i cant remember the name off (1 was painkiller, other was anti inflam). He instructed me to return in 2 weeks if pain hadnt gone.
2 weeks later, pain still there. Dont feel the pain whilst sat down or lieing down unless i move "awkwardly" or suddenly. However after about 5mins of walking/standing/physical activity i get a very painful lower back, shooting pains through my left bum cheek left outer thigh and my left quad feels like its aching or cramping. I then need to sit down to recover from it and then move on for another 5mins until i cant take the pain. So anyway returned to GP, he referred me for an XRAY, went to the XRAY and was told that was fine. I returned to GP who prescribed me some new anti inflamotorys (indometacin i think?), these made me very drousy but i carried on taking them in the hope they'd make me better!!
My doctor then told me he would referr me for some physio, i waited a month and finally got a letter from the physio place about my appointment. 3 weeks later i went to physio, i was given a few different exercises to do every week i went. I went 5 times over a 6 week period. Doing the exercises she asked me to do at home 3 times a day. I had my last physio session last week, where i said the pain was exactly the same. She referred me back to my GP and told me she doesnt think she can help me.
Back to the GP today, gave him the letter my physio gave me to give him. He read it and then said "so what can i do for you" ... i was quite taken about by this (isnt it obvious IVE BEEN IN PAIN FOR 7MONTHS AND WOULD LIKE IT TO STOP!!!) i replied "well im just wondering where do i go from here?", his reply "well steve i dont think we do go anywhere from here, you're a big lad, just look after yourself and take neurofen when the pain is bad" (ILL JUST HOOK UP AN INTRAVENOUS DRIP FULL OF THE STUFF THEN SHALL I!!). It happened so fast and was ushered out of his door i didnt get a chacne to ask any questions, up until now my doctor has been very good about my pain but today i felt like i was being told to **** off and deal with it.
I ama big lad, im 23, 6ft 5" tall, 28stone, size 17 feet etc . Currently on a diet and have lost 2stone in last 1 1/2 month.
Anyway, where do i go from here?? Do i have a slipped disc? sciatica? piriformis syndrome.... ARGHHHH i feel like im in limbo, i havent been given a defintive diagnosis!! Should i see a chiropractor? a different physio ( the guy who organises the 5aside league i play in got me the phone number of a physio who used to work at a professional football club), should i arrange a private MRI? Should i wait another few months to see if my weight loss relieves the pain? Should i just stop being a pu**y, pull funny faces from the pain and try to continue like normal with the aid of .... NEUROFEN!!
What are the strongest painkillers that are available without perscription, i dont feel like going back to see my GP any
