BMs, JMs, RUs

Hi Guys,

Great forum and many of you are hilarious. Had me rolling on the
floor several times.

Lived in Thailand for 17 years now, 7 in Phuket and 10 in Pattaya.
Presently in Phuket. Still enjoying it but have become more or
less immune to the bar scene. However, I will make the effort
one of these days to go over the hills to Patong and drop in on
the MTB for a couple of drinks. I live in Phuket Town and work
in Kathu.

Been reading many of the posts and can someone please explain
the differences between Board Members (BMs) Senior, Elite,
Junior Members (JMs) Gold, Silver, Bronze and Registered Users.

Welcome Chowthai -

The number of posts a BM (board member) has posted is the criteria for what level is given. After you post past each threshold (cant remember the levels - sure you'll get the info soon) - the BM gets upgraded to next level. However just because a BM posts a lot doesnt necessarily mean they are either expat locals or info is accurate.

chowthai, have you been working in thailand all this time or did you retire to LOS? inquiring mind wants to know.

Hi Evski,

Working on local wages. My first trip to LOS was in 1986 and like most
of you guys, I was stricken with the Thai Fever. Finally managed to get
a job teaching diving in Pattaya and moved here in 1988. It was a blast.
But not having much disposable income I kept it very low key but still
had a great time.

Got offered another job to start up a dive shop in Phuket and moved
here in 1994. Stayed in Phuket for 7 years but most of the time
played in Phuket town, with the occassional foraging trip to Kata/
Karon and Patong. Too expensive for my taste although I've had
a couple of freebies from BGs there. Not on the first date though!
It took time and getting to know them and they need to feel
comfortable with you. Speaking their language also helps.

Moved back to Pattaya in 2000 and started an Inurance Brokerage
with some good friends. That is now runnning smoothly and now
I'm back in Phuket helping another friend start a building project.
Been here since September 2005.

that's great that you're having successful business enterprises in thailand. other bm's (and myself included) are always wondering what kind of ventures they might be able to undertake to provide a life in los....aside from bars and clubs. sounds like you're living the dream. congrats and cheers to your continued success.

It wasn't easy and there was many a time when I
was on the verge of packing up and moving home.

Dealing with the Government Departments i.e.
Labour Office, Immigration was not the most
pleasant of experiences.
