Body Cushion-is it a good buy?

Hello everyone,

I am a recent grad and have read a lot about this Body Cushion system...has anyone else heard about it and if you had what are your thoughts? For therapists who have purchased it, is it a good buy? I've seen it sell for about $400 cdn. If anyone has any information, I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I have a set and clients love it. Check around on the web, there's lot's of variety in prices and they can be found used occasionally.

I wouldn't be without mine - I do a lot of pregnancy massage and I wouldn't be able to do it without the bodyCushion. It pretty much pays for itself every month and I've had it for 8 years (With shipping to australia it was about $1000cdn!) So as far as I'm concerned it is worth it.

I practice shiatsu as well as massage, and I use it for all my shiatsu sessions.

I lucked out and was able to buy mine used. I got the "pregnancy package" set with the extra mini bolsters for only $100 on craigslist.com

How do you turn a client when using the Body Cushion? I've never seen it used. It looks great for prone work, but I keep thinking it would be impossible to work with unless someone only wanted back massage. :?

For shiatsu, since the client remains clothed, I just ask them to take their time and turn over while I pull the cushions out. Then I can work supine without them.

I haven't personally used them in a massage session with draping, but I have heard other therapists say that they turn around for the client's privacy while the client sits back on all fours and removes the cushions themselves.

I'm sure there are more ways to do it, I just can't think of any!

Thanks. I guess I'd want to experience it as the client, before I could decide if I'd want to try to work with them. They do look interesting - and comfortable!!

How do you turn a client when using the Body Cushion?

You take the leg supports out from below their ankles. If you need to pull the cushion out or towards the head of the table, you get them to push up slightly, their knees will usually be off the bodyCushion and you just slide it up from the head piece.
Or you can have the bodyCushion face cradle positioned on top of your table normal face cradle or a solid extension piece, when they are ready to turn over you just take the face cradle or solid extension away and the main bit of the bodyCushion is in the right spot for them to lie back on it without you having to do move it at all. With the client face up it does give you great access to the back and neck in the opening where the belly usually is.

For heavily pregnant clients where I have had to build it up quite a bit to accomodate the belly, I will just get them to sit up for a minute while I remove the bulk of the construction, then they can lie back on the usual pieces and won't be flat on their back. Quite often heavily pregnant clients don't even want to turn over anyway, which gets rid of the problem

Try lying on your table with a pillow under your chest (just for a second), then turn over to lie back on the pillow - it's not that hard to do The only difference when you do it with a bodyCushion it's incredibly comfortable

Thanks, Melb! I am sort of picturing that. I guess all the pictures I've seen have had the clients face down, so I assumed it is not used for supine work. It does look like it could be very comfortable, either way.

I got the video that goes along with it.. the basic massage one.. it shows positioning and turning... I think it was about $30 from Massage Warehouse... If you don't find it, pm me and I will see if I can find it for you.

I have one, but have not really used it yet. Still in the development process of SO MANY other things! ha ha.. maybe I am making this whole massage thing harder than it has to be! J/K....
