Bodywork Biz- what do you think?

I have seen Bodywork Biz mentioned on this forum and wonder how many out there have tried it. I'm looking into it but am not quite sure yet as to how helpful this may be. I haven't even looked at the cost of it yet, not sure if I want to yet.... I am starting my business out after working in a clinic for over the past two years. (I'm so done with money hungry business owners.) Have some clients but need many more and I want to carefully consider in which ways I can invest- I have no money, zilch. Is Bodywork Biz worth it, and I mean seriously without a doubt worth it? Informative comments would be much appreciated...

I personally have not tried it, but many that have posted on here after having tried it, seemed to think it wasn't necessarily worth it. BUT there is TONS of great advice here on this forum, and it's FREE!!

I have done a few BodyworkBiz courses and am an affiliate for them. I liked the courses when I was just starting out in my new profession. Lots of great info. Then ... I found massageplanet! :grin: (This is sounding like an infomercial)

If you do not have the money, do not buy into ANY course online or otherwise. There is a TON of great info here to get you going and making money. Then, you can decide about spending the money on courses. Even then there is so much free info out there, you may never have to spend money on a course.

This is helping me out a lot. Thank you guys both. I've been looking through many of the different forums and have found them helpful.

One challenge I've been finding though which I wish were easier would be the search option. I've used it many times and notice it is not that accurate. I wish the search option could be reformatted to make it easier to find what we're looking for when searching through the forums. I notice it brings up the same forum articles but just in different order many times. I know how to use the search option too, it's just not seeming that effective.

I'm a search guru, just a hobby of mine, this is something that could be changed around to make finding what we want a little better. I'd imagine some others may have similar experiences online here too.

Either way I will still manually search through the forums, looking for what I want to find. I do think the layout is pretty good on the main forum page, thank goodness. I've noticed people try their best to stay on topic too so that is very, very helpful.

Just my ramblings here. Am glad for this website and hope to have many wonderful interactions with different therapists here in the future. Thank you both!

I have taken several of the BodyworkBiz courses on line and found some to be more effective than others.

If you are seriously short of clients and are willing to follow the instructions, then the BodyworkBiz course called 60 clients in 60 days will literally get you to that point.

What sort of person are you? I love networking - I joined local networking groups and the local Chamber of Commerce. I talk to everyone I can about my business. Watch your networking - go for every free or low cost event you can attend. Some groups get expensive.

When you talk about your business, be excited and enthusiastic. At my last group, there was an aesthetician that looked totally bored when talking about her business, and had lots of "well" and "um" in her presentation.

However, if that is not your style, you have to try something else. I will tell you that advertising in either a newspaper or even the Yellow Pages is expensive, for minimal return.

A good website is crucial these days, and get really good quality business cards.

Wonderful. Yes, I have considered the networking, but I'm not sure if it will be my best fit. Thank you for taking "personality" into consideration, if that's how I could put it. The cost here is $285 for the my cities Chamber of Commerce and another group is $185. This is truly expensive for me right now. Some say you must make a financial sacrifice in order to get the ball rolling, but, I think that may depend. It could be true and not true.

I really do well working with my clients asking them to help me out with the business. I work very well on the relationships that I have with each client, making sure to keep it professional but also very "real" if that makes sense.

I have some ideas in my mind that may work. Maybe I'll quickly share one, although this would no longer keep on topic with Bodywork Biz, but it is along the same lines with building the business. I have an idea I'm currently already working on to go to specific doctor's offices and giving gift packages to the assistants working in the offices.

I have attached miniature chocolates to my business cards with a hole punch and gold ribbon. I will place them inside gold party bags that will have golden/silver sprayed shredded paper (bought at Wal-Mart- sprayed the papers myself) at the bottom. Inside I will have some small hand lotion(s) and a note on my business and about meeting their needs for a massage. I may want to include an informative brochure about the benefits of massage. I'm considering bringing these gift bags to Orthopedic doctor's offices. There are many around here since I live in a very large metropolitan area. The challenge will be getting past the "no soliciting" policy many doctor's offices have. Maybe working with pharmaceutical reps could help me out?? A golden bag may be the trick though, with a nice smile and enthusiasm.

Any ideas along this line would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to work with clients that would like to seek medical massage. I'm working towards that direction although I don't quite have the funds at this point to get all the training I would like in medical massage yet. I have been very successful in my work though, and I know I have a knack for this area. Ok, well, I'm open to any one's thoughts. Smiles.

If you have the qualifications to work in any area of massage (even though you would like to take more 'medical massage' courses), do you not think that doing things like little bags might seem more like an aesthetician's or spa's advertising? Sorry if that seems a bit harsh.

I think you want to appear professional. You need your clients to rave about you and their results to their physician so they will in turn refer more people to you.

Are there any wellness or health trade shows coming up in your area?

No problem. I think the bag will work, but although I would like to work into going in the direction of medical massage I haven't arrived at that point yet. Hence, that is where I want to go into further training.

I personally believe, at least with the way people are where I live, a physician will respond more to his/her own employees much more sooner than to a patient. That's why I would work towards targeting particular doctor's offices. Not only that, realistically I don't have a single client that goes to an Orthopedic doctor. Obvious reasons to contact the different Orthopedic offices in my area.

Yes, you could argue the gold bag seeming spa-ish but then again it could simply just be taken as a "gift bag" and just that. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. I can't see the "gift bags" as not seeming professional, again, it may depend on personal preference. I'm quite confident this will work. It's good to get alternate views on such matters though, I appreciate it.

So far no wellness or health trade shows yet, but they will eventually come. I live in Florida, so it won't be long till one comes around.
