Buddha Public Holiday Friday - bars open/shut?

Visakha Bucha Day is observed on the day of the full moon during the 6th lunar month, which usually falls in either May or early June.

It is a day to commemorate three important events: the birth, the enlightenment and the passing away of the Buddha. Miraculously, these events fell in the same month and on the same date in the Buddhist era.

Normally we always close, but this year has been different, last big buddha holiday Patong could stay open while rest of Phuket had to close.

Very unusual, so I dont know either whether we a open or not.

We always get decision (from police) late, e.g. the night before such holiday.

Police gave us paper that no alcohol sales allowed, thus, Soi Eric closed tomorrow.

I was in Phuket last Holiday, we had no idea it was Buddah holiday the day we arrived, searching everywhere for an open bar, Bangla was completely shut down, a few bars open around Kata and Karon but not serving alchol. Some of the bar owners told us police were raiding bars who were selling alchol, we saw a few trucks full of police officers in uniform driving around looking for open bars to check if they were selling.

Same same here - I doubt any bars will be open on Nanai Road. Minimum fine if you're caught selling booze: 20K baht.... no, thanks!

Noticed at breakfast this morning.. Even the restaurant has a big 'no alcohol' sign.. So must have been warned.

We were warned this time....only the second time since I've been here.

In BKK now. Restaurants served beers, while mom and pop mini mart sold beers, but bars are closed and the 7/11's have all alcohol and tobacco products covered and locked.

Get take aways the day before etc, we had purchased a few bottles at the duty free shop on the way in so that saved us somewhat lol
