Canadian Tire has their Automotive OBDII Scan Tools on sale this week. Good idea to pick one up $79 plus tax.

With this tool, you can check out a Car For Sale alot more thoroughly than you could otherwise.

When I look at used cars, I plug in my Scan Tool and see if there are any trouble codes. I also look for signs of excessive rust and I check out the suspension for issues with worn parts. You can do that all right there on the spot, when you check out a car.

If a car has no trouble codes, doesnt have too much rust and its suspension is in good condition - plus it shifts well and the engine doesnt Rattle on idle or acceleration - you have yourself a relatively decent car. Sure, things might go wrong down the road, but all-in-all, it's a buyable car.

Yesterday and found out my cam sensor is defective.

Auto Zone is across the border. It would cost you at least 60 bucks to drive there from Toronto. And if you are checking out multiple used cars, are you going to drive each one across the border to Autozone to get them scanned for 'free'.

My scan tool has a feature that no scan tool from Canadian Tire sells. I simply plug it in, and the girl sends me thousands of different codes to my brain in just mere milliseconds. It also doubles as a dip stick. If her fluid level is low, I can top it up.
